US military goes to war with climate sceptics
Guardian UK ^ | May 20, 2011 | by Jules Boykoff

...For years, high-level national security officials both inside the Pentagon and in thinktank land have been acknowledging climate change is for real and that we need to take action to preserve and enhance US national security interests. The Pentagon itself stated unequivocally in its February 2010 in its Quadrennial Defence Review Report, "Climate change and energy are two key issues that will play a significant role in shaping the future security environment." It noted the department of defence is actively "developing policies and plans to manage the effects of climate change on its operating environment, missions and facilities".

This isn't a tree-hugging festival. It's the US military and its partners making clear-eyed calculations based on the best available climate science.

Climate cranks – many of them the same people perpetually hectoring us about the perils of national security – are choosing to ignore the seriousness of climate change even when the national-security experts they champion are telling us to do just that. Talk about cherry-picking data.

At the top level, the Pentagon becomes a political organization. It reflects back an adherance to the politics and mores of Washington. The "powers that be" in the military are quite pragmatic and perfectly willing to institute visible yet empty gestures, enforced as if the given issue is something that acually matters to the military. If the top brass believe that they will curry favor with the leftists in the executive and/or legislative branch, they will be glad to parrot that the atmosphere is turning to water due to excessive farting and institute manditory fart reduction training for all servicemen and women.

And although some in the Pentagon (and the services in general) may buy any tripe that comes down from the top, most servicemen and women know they are checking a bubble in order to placate their political masters.

Science!

Once upon a time (prior to the 1970s), there was a consensus among the world’s scientific experts on Mayan Culture that the Mayans were a peace-loving, agricultural and sun-worshipping culture. No other words were spoken except these in all the books, essays and talks given about this wonderful culture. If a scientist, looking over the evidence, came up with a different story - well, he was blackballed, not published or condemned to rot in the hell of purgatorial authorship.

Then in the 1970s and 1980s, linguists began to translate the Mayan language. Now we can read almost all of what they left behind. Guess what?

Science!

The ancient Mayan Culture was as bad if not worse than that of the Aztecs with human sacrifices, wars, slavery and a whole slew of deeds deemed impossible prior to the translation of their texts. All those scientists who were not in the consensus and called “deniers” were, in fact, very right.

Science?

Scientists have not changed for centuries. Take the prevailing thought, multiply it by human bias and that is what we call science. When a scientist gets mad because a person dares to question their findings - he is not a real scientist.

Welcome to Global Warming 101 and the consensus of scientists. I knew it was a lie when Al Gore stated that Man-made Global Warming was just like the laws of gravity. Global warming is ongoing and has nothing to do with what man does on the planet.

The Guardian writers seem to have forgotten that the military not only seeks to plan for everything but is **SUPPOSED** to be preparing plans for things, even if they’re not very likely to happen. I’m glad the Defense Department is planning what could happen if climate change is true. We need plans not only for likely scenarios but also for the unlikely and even the unthinkable. But planning for something isn’t the same as saying it’s likely.

From the Article: Federal legislation to combat climate change is quashed for the foreseeable future, scuttled by congressional climate cranks who allege the climate-science jury is still out. What's become clear is that, for some, the jury will always be out. We can't stack scientific facts high enough to hop over the fortified ideological walls they've erected around themselves.

From me: I posted the above scientific fact for the benefit of you climate crank Freepers for whom the jury will always be out. Maybe now you'll agree to tear down your fortified ideological walls and joyously spend trillions on proposals made by Nobel Prize winners like AlGore, the Wee Wee and the United Nations.

If the military had its own temperature sensors worldwide and its own independent officers doing analysis - then it would have bearing upon the issue.

They are relying upon what they are told by the same people who used “a trick” to “hide the decline”.

I know that if a pharma company used “a trick” to “hide the decline” the breach in scientific ethics would not be swept under the rug and the findings of said data - post “trick” - still treated as if reliable.

The “trick” is that they started with a lot of temp reporting stations - and selectively kept the data from the ones that showed an increase.

That is like starting 1,000 people on a diet and exercise plan you are selling - and then only reporting the data on 500 - selectively those that lost weight.

It isn't science when you use “a trick” to “hide the decline”.

Statement: "US military goes to war with climate sceptics"

Response: Of course they are. Millions of taxpayer defense dollars will flow to "Green" companies which in return will act as a conduit for funds right back to the Democratic party. The idiot is appeased and the Democratic party gets the dollars and the idiots votes.

You are right. They are jumping onto an agenda to further an agenda of their own.

These things are hardly ever about the truth.

two thoughts:

1. The Pentagon is staffed by a multitude if Ivy League civilians. They like Harvard types in particular. A few years ago we called them “whiz kids.” They come with college transcripts but no experience in the real world. They are smart but dangerous.

2. Of course climate is always in a state of change. Sometimes it heats, sometimes it cools. The source of change is conditions on the sun, weather cycles both short ones and longer ones which might include thousands of years. My suggestion is don't mess with Mother Nature. Momma won't like it and Daddy (Abba) might just get unhappy.

even with those numbers, you are absolutely correct!

...but the real numberrs, are much different.
the steady NORMAL sea level rise, of the past few thousand years, has basically stopped.
...the leaked emails from Hadley CRU, talk about “hiding the decline”. The world has gotten colder since 2003, not warmer - and they know it, and are trying to hide it!

Top astrophysicists (especially Russians), have been predicting a “mini- ice age” for years. The warming in the 90’s was because the Sun was the most active it’s been in 1000 years. Now, it is giving some of the lowest readings ever.
Many scientists are now predicting it will continue to get colder, for another 20-30 years.
...but this is still being hidden, largly because the urban heat island effect is ignored. (the IPCC said it is “negligible”. Yet NASA has admitted, it can be 8.0 degrees!)
...links like this one, show it this “negligable” effect is an order of magnitude greater than the wimply 0.6 degree increase they report. ...Meaning the true net cooling, is even more pronounced.
http://www.slayingtheskydragon.com/en/blog/147-the-urban-heat-island-effect-distorts-global-temperatures

...and worse, people like Hansen at NASA, are removing rural sites, and northern sites, from the official temperature record. Which further skews the reality, in a desperate attempt to create warming that simply isn’t there.

...and also outright fraud. official government records have been “adjusted”, making old temperature records (even 100 years ago!) suddenly “colder”. to artificially create an apparent warming slope, that isn’t there...

there is a petition sign (with notarized signatures) of over 30,000 hard science scientists, saying AGW is a hoax.
compared to the less than 100 tame scientiest of the IPCC.
...many reputable scientists, with decades of experience, have called this the greatest, most costly hoax in human history. ...but they are ignored and dismissed as “flat-earthers”, by our incredible accurate mainstream media...

As a general rule of thumb, first try right-clicking on the image to save it.

Many times, images are some times labelled contextually enough to give an idea.

In this case, it's goebbels

Here we go again. The crazies and scam artists of the global warming crowd are “well respected” and “scientific” and a consultant who’s paid well to write something supportive of the scam for a Pentagon bureaucrat becomes the authoritarian spokesman of the military establishment. Ever heard of overcompensation? The warmers are always going overboard to give themselves the appearance of credibility because they have none.

What a complete dumbass jules boykof is. Mullen is a political hack whose got his nose so far up obama’s butt he needs a periscope to see where he’s going. Secondly, the military is always gaming all sorts of scenarios. Doesn’t mean they are going to happen or are likely to happen.

US military goes to war with climate sceptics

Sleazy tabloids can't be expected to have standards any higher than the MSM.
The Headline is a total fiction.

Climate sceptics are defined differently by the climate nuts and normal people.
As it should, the military is planning to adapt to climate change. As should the rest of us.
That is a normal process ongoing for millions of years.

The wide gulf between the nutjobs and normal people, including actual honest competent scientists is the definition.

The nutjobs believe that man has both the intention and the ability to change climate.
The rest of us who were educated beyond the third grade know that adaptation is what enabled humanity to climb out of the chicken-entrails stage of civilization.

I totally believe in climate change; just as I believe in tides and extremely variable weather. I am also, by the fruitloops' definition, a climate denier.
I may not have to go far adapting to climate change; I don't expect to live hundreds of years.

But adapting to weather? Piece of cake.

I also assume that the military planners of today will have no role in the significant changes that may be necessary hundreds of years from now. Good luck to them even being able to imagine the extent or rate of that climate change. Keeps them busy if all muslims suddenly disappear...

Run, baby run. You got my vote. In fact the only person that has even vaguely addressed some of your platform is Sarah Palin. She said once and no one seemed to notice; How do you expect to change anything in DC, if you keep the same old people there?
