The way that I read this is that she is chastising the shows as glorifying being a teen mom.

You read it correctly.

You don’t have to defend her, even if you like her show. :)
I was only responding to the one point she made, because I think those teen mom shows stink also. But to say that she made the right decision to have an abortion because otherwise she would have a 20 year old child now? I’m sorry, but that makes her a pretty shallow and selfish person. No, it doesn’t mean she would have a 20 year old child now, adoption was available even in the olden days 20 years ago. It only means a 20 year old would be alive today.
And if you think I’m speaking from a theoretical point of view, no, I’m not.
So, you can like her show, and still think she said something wrong/dumb/shallow/whatever. You can even pray for her. She sounds like someone who could use prayer.

“but it’s childish and immature drivel”

Well that sums up her and her show. The only time I watched she proudly said she was a pothead. I didn’t watch long, definitely not worth losing brain cells for.

Exactly.

That is exactly what she is NOT saying.

The way that I read this is that she is chastising the shows as glorifying being a teen mom. There are actually young girls who try to get pregnant to be on the show. It is horrible.

I think we will have to agree to disagree.

***************************

From the article:

"Handler told the Times, “Getting rewarded for being pregnant when you’re a teenager? Are you serious? I mean, that makes me want to kill somebody.”

It appears Handler already has, as she continued, “I had an abortion when I was 16. Because that’s what I should have done. Otherwise I would now have a 20-year-old kid. Anyway, those are things that people shouldn’t be dishonest about it.”

Yes, she's chastising the shows for glorifying them for being teen moms, because she thinks they should have gotten abortions as she did. Imho, she's jealous, because she thinks she should be glorified for aborting her baby.

You have a problem with reading comprehension, honesty, or both.

I can't help you with either over the internet.

Who might be involved in cancer research and on the cusp of a major breakthrough, or involved in energy/combustion research and just discovered a major society changing invention or

Don't misinterpret my statement. I'm anti abortion. But the facts are that children of 16 year old teenagers are far more likely to be in the state penitentiary than doing cancer research of energy research. So let's be truthful about that much.

Interesting; abortion was one of the crimes against humanity that people were executed for at Nuremberg.

“There’s nothing admirable about this woman, and her show is disgusting.”

I know she has a dwarf or midget on her show; those people have almost been completely eradicated by abortion. Older people tell me that those conditions were much more common thirty or forty years ago; now babies with those conditions are often simply murdered in the womb. We are making our “master race”...

Clearly a situation that I would not joke about, but sometimes “jokes” like that are defense mechanisms. Bad ones. And usually when you are trying to work the conversation away from a personal or sensitive point.

Nobody can say for sure what she was thinking or feeling, but I doubt she felt very anxious or ill at ease. It's become a habit -- heck, a career -- for her to make comments like that. Sort of like with Joan Rivers or Joy Behar, but they have the "nutty old lady who doesn't really know what she's saying" defense.

The fact that she mentioned her abortion and followed that with a comment about “a 20 year old kid” makes me think she is deeply conflicted. She has no kids. She’s 36. Tick tock. Handler is obviously resentful of teen mothers. And now she’s writing books about her friendship with vodka? Unless she is a complete psychotic narcissist, I do feel sad for her. She may be in a lot of pain. The tears of a clown, and all that.

Its possible, but she gets paid to entertain. It’s not her audience’s job to provide her with therapy. And she has an impact on the people who watch her, so people have a right to have an opinion about what she says publicly.

This is a false either-or proposition. There is an alternative to both unwed teen motherhood and abortion, which is adoption.
