Good news: Obama botches toast to the Queen (No wonder he didn't get invited to the Royal Wedding)

Ah, now his “2008″ gaffe from earlier today is starting to make more sense. Turns out … he really is brain-damaged.

No, I kid. I think he, like Frank Drebin, simply doesn’t believe in silly ideas like having queens:

The president paused, the guests stood, and the orchestra prepared to play.

But the president wasn’t done speaking.

“The vitality –“ the president said before the orchestra began…

“To the Queen,” the president finally said.

He lifted his glass to her, she smiled a bit uncomfortably.

But because the song was playing, no one drank from his or her glass, including the president, who put his glass down on the table.

Protocol, apparently, requires the toastmaster to wait until after “God Save the Queen” plays and then begin the toast. But the almighty O waits for no sovereign, so he launched straight into his shpiel. To which I say, good for him. What else was the American revolution about, if not the right of the president to half-ass some formulaic niceties about the British monarch? He should have punctuated it with a weary “whatever” and downed the glass in one gulp.

This is why he doesn’t get invited to weddings, guys.

The British intentionally set Tingle Barry up to be humiliated.

They didn’t provide him with a teleprompter for the toast, and they knew this would be the inevitable result.

Look for them to have him marching around lead by John Cleese next time he goes over there.

Ok, I’m going to defend Obamer just a bit here but not all that much.

Because the United States has a State Department filled with diplomats and that sort. Their job is to research customs and traditions in other countries that American visitors, especially our President, know such things and abide by them.

Americans have an ugly enough reputation so this is a good thing.

I must suppose that the White House has some kind of liason type that works with the StateDepartment to gather this kind of data before trips to other countries.

So come on, WHO DIDN’T DO THEIR JOB HERE? Right in this article it describes the tradition of the toast to the queen so SOMEBODY did some research, maybe even on Wikipedia for God’s sake.

Now to slightly defend Obamer....who cares about all that queen stuff? The guy was merely trying to make a toast to the queen, a nice enough gesture. So he got it wrong and how embarrassing. But the more gracious, and queens, go with me here, SHOULD be gracious, would have spared him the humiliation. For make no mistake, this was a most humilating moment.

I’ll end with what I know might be a comment response to my thoughts above....yeah, Obamer hasn’t treated the British very nice, this country’s best ally, beginning with returning that bust of Churchill for no godly reason. Not to mention those godawful “gifts” he sent to the British with no forethought.

Could be the British are sick of this creep.

The only ones who aren't are members of the 57 Islamic states.

Elizabeth's first prime minister was Winston Churchill.

Churchill...Obama. I wonder if the queen was thinking of the differences between the two during Obama's visit.

Sorry, if you’re going to fly to London to try and look like a statesman and ostentatiously toast the Queen, then do it right and don’t embarrass our country.
