WASHINGTON -- A liberal legal scholar is withdrawing his nomination to an appeals court judgeship after Senate Republicans blocked a vote on his confirmation last week.
Goodwin Liu, 40, said in a letter to President Barack Obama Wednesday that he and family need "to make plans for the future" now that there is little prospect of a Senate vote on his nomination.

If obama made the nomination, how does Lieu withdraw it?
It’s hard to believe a scumbag liberal did the honorable thing. In fact, I don’t believe it.
There had to be a nudge and a payoff in there somewhere.
Are you nuts?
Freepers always comment in the second person like that (directed at the subject of the thread).
Yes entire the comment was directed at comrade Liu. The guy gives me the creeps.

Great news!
Two more; Miguel Estrada.
Goodwin Liu: Let’s parse his name
“Good” “Win” as in a “good win” for America not having this leftist clown on the bench
Liu: “Would I li to u” about how balanced my decisions would be?
The LU - where he belongs.
PS: I didn’t do well in English classes.
I understood what you were saying.
to SmithL I’m glad you understood what I was saying. Now, would you please tell me what it was. I’m a little slow tonight.
After working past 4:00 Am this morning, I woke up at 6:21 AM, then again at 8:00 to make sure my daughter got ready for work.
Then my neighbor had her roof redone, about 25 feet from my bedroom window. Nothing like 4 hours of nail guns going off without a break.
Then off to work again without a break.
Now, what did I write?
I’m a lawyer and I don’t have a single friend in the legal community who is a member of the ABA. They are just another liberal lobbying group.
Looks like we won this one.
'Goodwin Liu withdraws appeals court nomination'
Almost the same here. Not a member; because I joined the Law Student section for free as a law student, they still stalk me (apparently using public info from the state bar to track my changing contact info) and telephone-solicit me about every 3 years. The last time I got such a call, the solicitor (obviously following a script in response to my initial NO NO NOs) asked what it would take for me to join, such as free membership for 2 years, etc. I said, “You misunderstand. I affirmatively seek NOT to be affiliated with the ABA. You could pay ME and I still would not say I was a member.” That ended the entreaties.
I have a few acquaintances who are members, as is my72-year-old dad, but they are under no illusions that it’s a neutral trade organization anymore.
