California-based Google has renamed Durango Boulevard even if San Antonio is prohibited by a court from doing so itself.
Since at least Tuesday, a portion of Durango Boulevard appears on Google Maps as César E. Chávez Boulevard something that shocked San Antonio Conservation Society President Rollette Schreckenghost
We're very disappointed, she said. I'm stunned.
The conservation society sued to stop the city from changing Durango to Chávez Boulevard in honor of the late labor leader.
A district judge blocked the change Monday, pending a full hearing next month. Until then, the city can't proceed. Neither can outgoing Councilman Philip Cortez, who had planned a ceremonial unveiling that was scheduled for this week.
But Google changed the name anyhow.

As far as I can tell, this is a cult worship thing. I can't discover what Chavez did for Texas or San Antonio. He was a labor leader and outside the small sphere of farm workers has had no impact.
Google is as hard leftist as they come. As leftist as bummer.
USE ALTERNATIVES!!!
Eg famlis.com, typepad.com, etc.
Oh, and while you’re at it install a program like Ghostery which will block Google Analytics from tracking what you do on the web.
Google can call it whatever they wish the court order doesn’t apply to them.
Personally I stopped using Google over their involvement in the Egyptian mess.
FR itself invokes this stuff. If you feel this is helping the enemy, feel free to tip off Jim Robinson. (In the meantime, it is proving to the whole web that FR is by far the stickiest blog out there.)
This premature move by Google Maps is only going to render that piece of their map that much harder for out-of-towners, who have no dog in this fight, to use.
Caesar Chavez was against subsidizing illegal immigration to keep depressed wages and the constant displacement of farm workers. Celebrating him makes more sense than Cinco de Mayo parades.
No worse than naming a sub after Jimmy Carter.
These genius-level city council members thought it was worth SPENDING $100,000 OF YOUR TAX DOLLARS to rename a street....
How many extra votes did these council members calculate they would gain?
“The secure alternative to google:”
You can say that again!
Highly recommended by me! No cookies, no ip cr@p. Been using it for quite a while, and recommending it to all my friends.
Something seems “up” with this because my daughter-in-law, who lives in Portland Oregon, says that they are changing the street by their house to Chavez as well. Seems funny that these name changes are happening at the same time in different places.
Bit by bit anything connecting future generations to past generations and our traditions, names, etc. is being removed and replaced...fundamentally transforming America.
Look at the challenges to Christmas, Easter, marriage, staying home to raise children, eating meat, barbequing, driving cars. ALL of these things add up to distancing us from our grown up children who tend to think we are neanderthals because we don’t want everybody on bicycles or in mass transit, or because we celebrate Thanksgiving. We have no holiday for George Washington. It has changed to a generic and meaningless “Presidents’ Day.” But MLK has a day of his own. And so on and so on. We are being erased.
You're kidding, right?
