Bachmann Votes to Renew the Patriot Act
Michele Bachmann's Facebook Page ^ | May 26, 2011 | Michele Bachmann

Tonight, I cast an affirmative vote in the House to continue three measures which uphold our national security and are in place to protect American citizens against those seeking to do us harm. I urge you to click on the link and read about the Constitutionality of these provisions compiled by my friend and colleague, Rep. Steve King (IA-05), a member of the Judiciary Committee.

Problem is......there’s no difference....at least what I’ve been seeing.

What does it matter if Palin supports it or not. This is about Congresswoman Bachmann’s failure of leadership. A double minded woman, she is.

My better half and I are very simple folks and are just in the dark about all this patriot act stuff.

Could someone please kindly break down, what all of this means and why M.Bachmann voted for it since it seems to be a bad thing?

Thank You

My understanding is the sections of the Patriot act that were to expire are sections really needed to stop possible attacks from terrorists. Warrants must be obtained before actions. I did listen to some of the debate in the House and heard Bachmann state why she was voting for it. I also saw all the DEMS who were against it.

I would like to see the full list of how all the House members voted. I would like to know if Congressman Allen West voted for the previsions.

Same here I have read it also, in fact several times.
From what I can gather from it, is that it gathers and modernizes already existing legal authorities into one package. Some of those previously existing legal authorities have been in existence for as much as 60 years and have survived numerous constitutional legal tests.

To me it's much ado about nothing, anyone who is concerned about it either was unaware or didn't understand the preexisting laws (which address a rapidly disappearing analog communications world!) or is willfully unconcerned about national security for whatever personal or mischievous reason.

I don't feel like explaining why we should have to get a warrant BEFORE making an arrest or searching a house.

Is it really hard to get a warrant?

Thank You

If Mr West is against it (Which I don’t know right now) .. That would be a good indicator of what is going on.

The man is a TRUE Patriot!

Of course you don’t have to explain it. That’s because there is nothing in the Patriot Act that says they don’t need a warrant to search anybody’s house. They still gotta have a warrant.

Now, with arrests... you know already that arrests can be made on scene without a warrant. That’s never been a requirement for arrests.

You are either confused or don't know what you are talking about. Agents can write their own warrants before or after the fact.

This is a slippery slope and leads to what we are seeing now with the Indiana Supreme Court.

Thanks for the link. I read the article and I'd like some commentary from those who are upset with this vote to tell me where Steve King is not correct or why the precedence is not Constitutional.
