The Pima County Sheriff's Department released a video Thursday that shows a SWAT team shooting into a suspect's house. He died after being shot 60 times.
Jose Guerena, 26, was shot and killed May 5 when Pima County authorities served a search warrant on his home.
The Sheriff's department says five SWAT team members fired more than 70 rounds in less than 10 seconds after the former Marine pointed an assault rifle at officers. His wife contends the family thought the officers were robbers. He was shot 60 times

Only thing I got out of that video was the fact that the guy with the camera was hiding behind a vehicle.
Despite my previous posts, this action seems to stink to high Heaven.
If that was me behind that door with a loaded AK, my field of fire would have let me take out four men in a second once that door hit the floor.

...and the wife saw the man through the window. she tried to communicate with him. clearly, he saw her.
so, the SWAT team then KNEW that at least the wife was home, and probably at least one child, when they previously thought they weren’t.
yet, they stormed it anyway.
the wife, AND a neighbor, confirmed there was no sirens, no announcement, and certainly no knocking for 45 seconds.
also, the story changed many times. SWAT later admitted, his saftety was on, and he never fired.
but another thing that changed, is the number of hits.
i saw many times early, “7 hits out of 71 shots.”.
the 71 remained, but later the 7 became 60.
i remember, because many commented on the terrible accuracy.
i believe the 7 was correct. how could he lived for an hour 14, with 60 bullets? (and, they try hard to not mention, he was still alive when the wife came out of the closet...)
this stinks worse than the COSTCO murder by SWAT of the West Point graduate, in Nevada.
good point. there was one really bad one, when the story first broke... he tried REAL hard to do damage control.
but since then, pretty much everyone agrees this was murder of an innocent Marine.
...he had nothing on his record but traffic tickets. was sleeping after a 12 hour shift at a mining company, and had purchase the tiny house, only 2 months before.
...the neighbor confirmed no sirens. the shot him, and then the refused to let the medics in, for 1 hour 14 minutes, and then they radio the medics could go home, because the “suspect” was dead.
i might forgive the original mistake.
but there is NO doubt, they LET him bleed to death.
that is deliberate, thought out, murder.
Which is something the pro drug abusing cop haters who are using well meaning FReepers as tools to their agenda jumped on as being a big lie that proved this was murder.
Well, this video at least settles that question.

I think what Gene Eric is saying is that, if this Marine was TRULY prepared, there would have been a lot of dead SWAT members piled up in his front hallway.
One can think they are prepared by having a gun at the ready - but are not truly, fully prepared. Otherwise this Marine may still be alive. Or at least have gone down fighting. But - his wife and child are alive.
And - if this HAD been a group of thugs as I believe the Marine thought, he probably would have been able to kill some and deter all of them.
I do work at a place sometimes where I can hear the training for a specialized police force. The various types of automatic weapon fire is amazing and on-going. They are getting LOTS of training with heavy weapons. I used to comment “I’m sure glad those guys are on our side!”.
For several years now it has become “I sure hope those guys are on our side.”
Thank goodness that they no longer need a warrant as of a couple days ago:

Glad to hear we are getting tough on those dopers. We have to give up some of our freedoms in order for them to keep us safe. Glad those S.C. justices have the balls to do this. Although they probably don’t have the guts to cross out the entire 4th Amendment. But they might as well.

The department's excuses for keeping all of this information under wraps make little sense. In his May 18 press release (http://pimasheriff.org/bulletins/officer-involved-shooting-update/), for example, Public Information Officer Jason Ogan wrote, "The investigation that lead to the service of the search warrants on May 5 is a complicated one involving multiple people suspected of very serious crimes.
Sometimes, law enforcement agencies must choose between the desire of the public to quickly know details, and the very real threat to innocent lives if those details are released prematurely." Dupnik used the same line of reasoning. "Those are the real sensitive parts of why we are having difficulty with trying to put information out publicly--because we don't want somebody getting killed," Dupnik said.
The problem with that explanation is that the search warrants and affidavits weren't sealed until four days after the raids were executed, right at about the time the troubling questions about Jose Guerena's death began to make national headlines...
You can assume anything you wish but there are investigations as there should be and when they are complete then there will be the answers for you.

You raise a good point. Did the judge know he was putting the lives of children in jeopardy? Is this exercise of narcotics control exemplary of intelligent justice and planning? I don’t think so. It’s imperious authority akin to the kind of statism we defeated in WWII.

Yeah, all the investigations you refer to will be based on statements by those civilian paramilitary troops that busted this guys door down, and proceeded to shoot him 60 times.
Does the dead suspect even have a history of violence?

Seems to me the SWAT team only does the entry, the investigation and obtaining of the warrant is done by others, no ? I always thought SWAT teams just got their orders and went in, assuming they had a valid arrest to make and it was some kind of drug den with potentially numerous armed and dangerous people with long rap sheets.
I don’t know, but seems like if a warrant was issued, they would have done a background check of the resident. I would they they should have noted a military record and the job, which wouldn’t one think that perhaps this is at least somewhat of a stand-up guy ? Perhaps he simply could have been arrested when driving into the driveway coming home from work by regular police ?
It makes no sense that a SWAT team was ordered in where only a husband, wife and child were living. With no serious rap sheet, why could this guy not have been even sent a letter to come down to HQ for an interview - I bet he would have.

Your right, and I’m going to predict now, based upon the Pima Co Sheriff and his SWAT Gestapo’s current actions.
Their documented lies to the media both the AZ Daily Star and KGUN TV, the fact he sealed all warrants and affidavits in this raid only after the media began calling it what it really is, A MURDER... and the entire SWAT team is now hiding behind a CRIMINAL DEFENSE LAWYER, not the county attorney but a CRIMINAL DEFENSE LAWYER...
Yeah I’m gonna predict this $hit sandwich will grow is size and stench and in the end will cost Pima County $$$MEGA BUCKS$$$$ when this fallen marines widow sues the living piss out of Pima county and wins.
Hopefully someone will end up in jail over this too... but the fat blue line is strong and rarely are bad cops held accountable for anything these days including murder under color of law...
