G-8: Nations, banks to give $40B for Arab Spring

DEAUVILLE, France – Rich countries and international lenders are aiming to provide $40 billion in funding for Arab nations trying to establish true democracies, officials said at a Group of Eight summit Friday.

Officials didn't fully detail the sources of the money, or how it would be used, but the thrust was clearly to underpin democracy in Egypt and Tunisia — where huge public uprisings ousted autocratic regimes this year — and put pressure on repressive rulers in Syria and Libya.

The overall message from President Barack Obama and the other G-8 leaders meeting in this Normandy resort appeared to be warning autocratic regimes in the Arab world that they will be shut out of rich-country aid and investment, while new democracies are encouraged to open their economies.

"This support will initially be available to Egypt and Tunisia, but will ultimately be there for any country that embraces the path to democracy and reform — and of course that could include, for example, Libya," he [Sarkozy] said.

What a scam the islamists have worked out, ably assisted by their Grand Ayatollah Ubama.

The arab view of democracy is nations devoted to Christian and Jewish destruction. No wonder hussein is in complete agreement.

I certainly don’t see those nations going the way of founding a government such as we have here in the U.S., not close. Freedom for all is the one thing they fear most.

No arab population is trying to establish a True Democracy unless the PC definition is Sharia and death to infidels.

More b/s to drain cash from the west. Democracy as we know it is a product of primarily English religion, law and culture. In our format it is antithetical to Islam. All the monkeys can do is parrot the words. As long as they embrace Islam , Sharia will supplant whatever challenge they take on.... even after the money that Obama wants to give them to further Islams needs.

The west has been sucked in again by Obama.

I think the objective of the West's wanting radical Muslim expansion is to eliminate all the remaining royal dictatorships in the Arab countries and to eliminate Israel. They, like the US are a huge obstacle in establishing a one world government. When the royal dictators fall there will be a huge shift in the wealth of those nations, essentially the security of that wealth will become easy pickings and that is were the one worlders will become entrenched in who gets placed in positions of power. just my opinion

That may be so. However what makes Europe think that it will have any role in this one world government, except being hired as local managers of their little countries? European industry is struggling, European finances are swimming in red, European stability is compromised, European military power is minimal. Europeans are in no position to demand anything, and certainly not to control the world.

RE the new world order; trial and error makes it a slow process and/but Europe is in the same situation as the US, the sooner it collapses the easier it will become to restructure as a whole. Not to be haughty but there has to be a problem (strife, hunger, poverty) before the people will be willing to accept a solution, whether it be real or perceived.
