The leadership in Iran sees the project as a way to end the fight for control of the Internet, according to observers of Iranian policy inside and outside the country. Iran, already among the most sophisticated nations in online censoring, also promotes its national Internet as a cost-saving measure for consumers and as a way to uphold Islamic moral codes...

I work with a guy from Iran. His mother is still there and in her 70’s. Every night after dark she has to sneak out to attach her dish to the roof and take it down before going to bed. Internet is spotty at best.. and the phones are monitored..

A good example of why the nanny state progressives in the W.H. have been loath to criticize Iran (or support the protests for freedom in the country). They are jealous of the breath and capability of the State of Iran to be its citizens nanny. The W.H. is in awe.
