Armed western men have been filmed on the ground with rebels in central Libya in the first apparent confirmation that Nato has sent military advisers to train anti-government forces.
A group of six westerners were clearly visible, according to a report by al-Jazeera from Dafniya, described as the westernmost point of the rebel lines west of the town of Misrata. Five of them were armed and wearing informal sand-coloured clothes, peaked caps, and cotton Arab scarves.
The sixth, apparently most senior of the group, was carrying no visible weapon and wore a pink, short-sleeve shirt. He may be an intelligence officer. The group is seen talking to rebels and then quickly leaving on being spotted by the television crew.
The footage emerged as South Africa's president, Jacob Zuma, arrived in Tripoli in an attempt to broker a ceasefire. He described reports that he would ask Gaddafi to step down as "misleading", and said he would instead focus on humanitarian measures and ways to implement a plan concocted by the African Union, which would see Libya undertake a process of transition to democratic rule but not seek Muammar Gaddafi's exile.
The western men seen by Al Jazeera were present on rebel lines late last week, days before British and French attack helicopters are to join the Nato campaign. They are expected to be active over Libya this week and likely to be deployed on the outskirts of Misrata, from where forces loyal to Gaddafi continue to shell rebel positions to the east.

“A group of six westerners were clearly visible”
But how can they tell? I thought Libyans are also “caucasian”?????
I hope they were wearing sneakers. Obama promised there would be no boots on the ground.
Obamas army , fighting shoulder and toe to toe with his brethren, the Al Qaeda against Libyan forces...
US Boots on the ground? Naw!Say it aint so!!! /S
I am still rooting for our old ally, Qadaffi.
If Qadaffi falls, the gateway to sub-Saharan Africa will be opened up to the radical Muslim Brotherhood.Obama wants that.He is a treasonous ba$tard, and supported the Islamofascist Odinga in 2006 and 2007 by campaigning for him in Kenya when he was a Senator. That turned out great, with 7000 genocidal deaths, and Odinga taking “shared power” with the elected government of Kenya.
The USA has NO business being in Libya.Certainly we have no business of aiding and abetting the Muslim Brotherhood in Libya, as we are doing, even now preparing to fund them with frozen Libyan assets, we had been killing the MB by the thousnds in Iraq just a few years ago, most of them recruited from the Muslim Brotherhood strongholds of Eastern Libya..Now we want to kiss them and their HAMAS “establish Palestine” organization, betray Israel and open up Africa to fire, terror and blood, So the entire continent becomes like Southern Sudan??
Obama should be run out on a rail, or worse. He is no better than Robert Mugabe, AND Obama has his hands on the abuse of US military power.
I hope Qadaffi stays the course and beats the lot of them.If the Saudis were smart, they would be funding Qadaffi like mad, for Obama means to see the Muslim Brotherhood take Mecca and Medina eventually, establishing the World Wide Caliphate armed with nuclear weapons, of Obamas “New World Order” .
Anyone who supports the USA in Libya is either nuts or uniformed or both.
ex-CIA Agent Reveals: Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated 0bama Administration
Yes, that, too. The policy of our government’s favorite constituents on the Middle East is hideous—especially the Obama Adminstration.
He is busy aiding and abetting the enemy. The enemies of freedom and democracy. What does islam know of the English concept of democracy? Nothing. Nada, Zip!
They can parrot the words, however, it is antithetical to Islam.
He is a insult and affront to modern man.
