America: Superpower or Welfare State, But Not Both

The United States is stretching itself too thin, and I am not talking about defense. The liberal entitlement mentality is killing America.

In an opinion piece Saturday by The Wall Street Journal, it was pointed out that this year’s defense spending, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, takes up about 4.5 percent of our gross domestic product, the lowest in decades. Meanwhile, entitlement spending, as of last year, stood at 9.8 percent of GDP, the highest ever. The above graph from the Journal tells the story wonderfully.

And there is no end in sight....

If our politicos would just get out of the way and make it easier for everyone to get a job, we would have a fair shot at digging our way out of our current financial mess. With all the entitlements though, there are too many people not working or not paying their way and that is a huge headwind to overcome.

Rule number one is always, “Don’t kill the goose that’s laying the Golden Eggs”. Our politicos have the jackboot on the Goose and he’s down to his last breath!

More like “America: Squandering everything that it built up as a superpower to give the current generation an easy life, come what may for future generations.”

The giant Ponzi Scheme that is the US Welfare State has reached a point of dangerous unsustainability but most Americans are voting to keep it going for another few years through borrowing and mortgaging the future. Its an inter-generational crime.

The libbies have turned the safety net into a velvet cushion. I had to go to Camden, NJ a couple of days ago for some business. Was on a main street and there were a line of 10 taxis or more taking people from home to the Fast Food Row. They get a transportation allowance paid for by the taxpayer, you and me. I go to Walmart first of the month. Baskets filled with process food while the person is in a motorized cart because they are to damn fat due to all the calories in the processed food paid to push a cart. In NJ they can get furniture vouchers for $800 to pay for brand new furniture. Its time to deflate the cushion and put the net back up.
