The one Republicans really want
washington times ^ | 6/2/11 | Jeffrey T. Kuhner

There is a potential presidential candidate whom almost every Republican wants. This person would not only galvanize the GOP base, but attract large numbers of independents and centrists as well. He would smash President Obama in 2012 and probably win by a landslide. He is Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin. More than Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich - or any other possible “first-tier” candidate - the House Budget Committee chairman would be the most formidable challenger. He is smart, articulate and principled. He has name recognition.

"He has name recognition."

To who??
I have nothing against Paul Ryan but if you walked down the street here in Missouri and asked 100 people who Paul Ryan is 95 of them would give you a blank stare.

Paul Ryan would be a great candidate but I don’t think he’s on anyone’s radar. Maybe as the VP or even a cabinet post in a Republican administration?

Well, Palin is my first choice, but I like Ryan quite a lot.

As a party we own the Ryan Medicare reforms now, so if we are going to stand our ground on it then who better to represent us?

I could see a Palin/Ryan ticket? Palin is the common sense, big picture leader and Ryan can get down in the weeds on policy particulars.

And if Palin doesn’t run and Ryan wins the nomination, I’d have no problem with Ryan/Bachmann - though I have a suspicion that whoever wins the nomination is going to try to get Rubio on board in order to compete for the hispanic/latino vote.

If he would run, I would certainly give him a strong look.

He has certainly not been afraid to stand up to Obama-lama-ding-dong on this budget issue, that’s for sure. And he apparently can take the heat too.

The question is though, would he ever run? I don’t think so, at least not this go-round.

And thus, you have hit the nail on the head. People just do not educate themselves on presidential candidates. Thus, good, solid, deserving people either do not run or cannot get a foot hold because everyone keeps wanting the same ole, same ole, I.E. McLame last election. The RINO party needs new, younger blood for them to start getting too the younger individuals who we rarely get. The old folks on the majority are solid in their beliefs one side or the other and rarely change. You need middle to younger people, and I am not saying 21, 22 year olds. 30-50 ages. That is what they need to pull in. The young folks have all fallen for the give them everything for free. That has to change.

I like Marco a lot and enthusiastically voted for him and was I was tickled pink when he buried that pretty boy turncoat Crist under six feet of dirt, but a lot of skeletons in his closet got exposed toward the end of his campaign.

He does have some pretty shady and questionable business dealings in his past, and just barely skirted indictments for a couple of them, which you know the libs will dig up and throw in his face.

I like Ryan. I am still hoping Palin / Cain.

NE libs would jump off buildings. NOW and the NAACP would have to hide. The only groups that would come out are the abortionists and the gays. For all the world to see in their glory.

It would be beautiful man.....

Ah, okay. Thanks for the honest assessment and heads up. I will do a little research on Rubio and see if maybe he's not the strong future candidate I thought he would be.

Who was it that said if "you don't get audited by the IRS every 5-6 years, your accountant is not trying hard enough."
