A federal grand jury has indicted two-time presidential candidate John Edwards in a campaign finance investigation.
The criminal charges filed Friday came after a two-year federal investigation into money used to cover up an extramarital affair during the 2008 presidential election.
Edwards, a former U.S. senator from North Carolina, said in a statement through his attorney in 2009 that he was confident no funds from his campaign were used improperly.
But federal officials have said the hundreds of thousands of dollars two Edwards donors gave to help keep his mistress in hiding were contributions that should have been reported publicly by his campaign fund because they aided his bid for the Democratic White House nomination.
I’m sorry for his children. First, their mother’s cancer returned followed by the public report of their father’s affair and child. Edwards children had to endure their parents divorce, their mother’s death, and now their father’s arrest and indictment.
Edwards is a self consumed individual. His children have my sympathies.
I was speaking of Edwards the politician. As a parasitic trial lawyer, he has done serious damage, and I should have considered that aspect of his life. You are correct.

Somewhere there are many OB/GYN docs that might feel perhaps a bit vindicated. Sure their careers, lives and money were viciously taken from them by one of the biggest weasels we have allowed to exist. But seeing that guy shed some tears, have his freedom and fortune taken away, and God willing sees some serious time in prison - might just be a ray of hope and redemption.
I think they should have a reserved cheering section at the trial apportioned for NC’s docs, esp OB/GYNs.
Chances are it would be standing room only with tickets being scalped for big money outside the courtroom.

I wonder if he would have been indicted had he been VP. It was very close.
I doubt it. The media would come screaming to his aid and the courts would notice and do nothing.
This is not justice. Everyone is mad at him for cheating on his sick wife and he was going to pay. It’s convenient that he broke some laws.

Makes you wonder the deals they make to let each other take the hit....they mostly all walk in the end. I suspect Edwards wasn't big enough or positioned enough to cover his butt as they have others. He was expendable.
Bottom line is you put your junk where it doesn't belong you're going to loose your wife and children...that's the price. Even if "she stands by her man"...it's over...will never be what it was intended...and the man will pay out of his pocket book where most have their heart located.
