And there it is, the presumption of guilt. To quote myself:
Aristotle, in the Nichomachean Ethics, elaborated on the question of ends and means with an answer so clear and simple, it is a wonder that ends justification was ever mentioned again. He wrote (this is condensed out of a couple of paragraphs), No person selects an end unless it is a means to something else. There are no Ends. There are only means.
This is a classic case of a perfectly laudable "end" (deporting illegals), used to justify an abominable means. The "means" you would employ is to empower the Federal government to have its trembling hand on a national registry with the power to deny employment. No founder of this nation would have ever tolerated such a power, but especially when it is totally unnecessary.
If you think for a minute that within the Federal government such databases are not abused, I have bad news for you, as anybody familiar with Firearms Inquiry Statistical Tracking (FIST) will tell you (item "D" about a third of the way down the page).
When a cop stops someone for a traffic violation, they ask for a driver's licence. They also check the license number with a database to see if the car is stolen. Checking to see if a new hire has a valid SS is not any violation of civil liberties any more than checking if you have a passport or a ticket to get on a plane. If we don't get immigration, legal and illegal, under control, you won't have a country any more. We will lose it thru the ballot box and a bankrupt economy.
Are you on SS? If not, wait until you have to apply to get your benefits.
Bears repeating.
