The Boston Red Sox will produce an online video for the “It Gets Better Project,” an anti-bullying project aimed at helping gay youth.
The announcement that the team would be the third major league baseball team to participate in the campaign came today in response to a petition started by a 12-year-old New Hampshire boy that garnered nearly 10,000 signatures in a matter of days.
“The Red Sox organization takes the issue of bullying seriously,” the team said in a statement yesterday released by spokeswoman Leah Tobin. “It is something that has touched many of us and those we love, and it is a growing problem in our community. We are proud of dedicated Red Sox fans like 12-year-old Sam Maden who have taken the courageous step of publicly standing up against bullying of LGBT youth.”

Agreed. I was bullied when I was in school, and I’m not gay. I never exhibited stereotypical “gay” behavior, either. I was just a skinny, awkward kid. Prime target for POS bullies. I’m glad for the focus on bullying, but to make it seem that only gay youth are “worthy” of a specific ad campaign is ridiculous.

You know why they didn’t have a lot of bullying of homosexuals back during the times of the Caesars?

That kind of thinking is part of why America is collapsing as a society.
There's an old, oft-quoted study where a chimp was dyed pink and placed back in a large cage with his social group of chimps. The chimps tore the pink one to shreds before the experimenters could get him out.
What was the point? Social groups can tolerate only a certain amount of trait divergence. Bullying is a form of reinforcing social cohesion and social order, not a pleasant one but a facet of all social animals. Too much diversity weakens the social group and it pulls apart like modern American society.
Additionally, it leads to an important life lesson. The only way to stop a bully is to fight back - not to have a focus group and a new ribbon awareness campaign.
This country is heading up a big poop shoot.
I recall that in 2000 the Atlanta Braves had a “gay” day at the ball park with a lesbian throwing the first pitch of the game. Take me *away* from the ball game.

Or maybe their culture was so far gone they didn't recognize it. The Romans were a depraved culture.

Because gay kids kill themselves so often. They blame it on bullying but gay kids are usually attention-whores. They are emotionally and mentally unbalanced anyway and drawing a lot of attention to themselves doesn’t help.
Gay kids are most often bullied by other gay kids. There is a lot of jockeying to see who will be Top Gay in the school.
That trait isn't limited to the LGBT crowd in New England...I am stunned at the number of adults who act like 5 year olds around here...
In the “real world” bullying is one of those things that you have to live with. It exists on all fronts and everyone has to deal with it. To think “education” will end it is more than a weak naive look at the world.
Examples of daily bullying:
Punks, the government, workers trying to advance, code enforcement and a whole host of other things to “push” you around and in a word...Bully...you to comply with their desires and wishes.
There is only one way to fight a Bully and that is to stand up to them, not run to “mommy.” In real life “mommy” won’t be there and you will have to stand on your own feet. If you didn’t learn how to deal with bullys in school, you won’t know how as an adult.
In that case, you will end up doing exactly what has destroyed our country and heritage today-—letting the government (on all levels) become your “mommy” and protector.

You’re thinking of the Greeks. In Sparta the custom was for an older man (erastes) to take a young boy (eromenos) under his wing and mentor him. The relationship was sexual as well. The motivation behind these arrangements was to produce as close-knit fighting force as possible. These homosexual/pedophile relationships seem to have been common throughout the Hellenistic world.
As long as I’m not banned by FR, I don’t care.
As far as the false religion of global warming is concerned, I purposely leave the tires on my aircraft carrier sized SUV as soft as possible. I spray DDT daily on my crisis garden. I also collect old aerosol cans.
