Obama and the Debt Crisis
The Wall Street Journal ^ | June 3, 2011 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 06/05/2011 10:57:49 AM PDT by Clintonfatigued

Obama inherited financial collapse, deficits and debt. He inherited a broken political culture. These things weren't his fault. But through his decisions, he made them all worse.

Peggy Noonan is so right here. Obama took our nation’s problems and made them worse, much, much worse. DemocRATS can’t go on blaming George W. Bush forever. I’ll admit that Bush isn’t blameless. In fact, I regard Bush as the Republican version of Jimmy Carter. But Obama’s Presidency makes Bush look good. In some ways, Obama makes Jimmy Carter look good.

I can’t wait till the day that Obama leaves the White House.

It’s almost as though someone(s) else were in charge behind the Presidents, and just kept on continuing that someone else’s policies, through a succession of administrations. It almost seems it doesn’t matter who is in the oval office.

the financial mess was inherited from the dem congress which collapsed the housing and banking systems.

dems have controlled it all for 4 1/2 years now.

they’re doing a great job... destroying the country

Even a broken watch....

No, Peggy is really pretty smart, but she’s become so embedded in the establishment that’s it’s hard for her to understand what is happening outside the beltway, and harder for her to disagree with her social group.

Obama inherited financial collapse, deficits and debt.

Non sequitur. All Presidents inherit the status of the country and events, so what? I am so tired of this point.

It is not the hand you are dealt, it is how you play it moving forward. Bam has been a catastrophic failure on this point.

If he had spent 2 years fixing the economy, streamlining government and building trust he would have setup a 20 year run for Demos. As it is their very existence is at risk right now.

What a fool.

Ah...he also volunteered to fix them.

Epic Failure.

Inheriting problems is bullshit for a president. Every president including Washington inherited problems when he came on board. Beyond that worn out piece of kitsch I have no doubt he has made everything worse. Scanning the morning headlines tells you that, daily.

I’m reeeeeeeeeeeeally sorry he inherited problems. He did run for the office, didn’t he? I don’t recall anyone behind him with a gun making him run. Another case of “Don’t take the job if you know you can’t do it.” I don’t begrudge the guy having ambition and aspirations...I do begrudge the dipsticks who voted for him. “Well, he might turn out to be an adequate President.”

Yep, Stimulus hand-outs, about $600 per Bush, Jesse Ventura did the same with the Minnesota surplus, but implementing any lower tax rate with Democrats having a say is mission impossible.

Bush and his predecessors were partly responsible for the mess going into 2012. But more immediately responsible were Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, Fannie Mae (run by corrupt black politicians), and the Democrat congress.

And curiously enough, even as a freshman Senator, Obama was right in the middle of all that corrupt activity.

Even before he inherited this mess, he was helping to make it, working closely with Paulson to push through TARP and the GM “bailout.” Bush was suckered into going along, but it wasn’t really his idea.

The problems didn't just appear on January 20, 2009. It was Obama’s decision to run for President - he know the situation. He can't whine now... What a cry baby.

Disturbing how many comments at WSJ are those from ex military grousing about how the "Bush" tax cuts have added 4 trillion to the debt. Not sure if those were authentic or libs trying to embellish their cred.

The steady 40+% of obana supporters are the looters and the moochers - they are going nowhere and clearly learning nothing.

It’s the political zombie apocalypse. I’m starting to think the best course of action would be to nuke LA, DC, and NY from orbit before we start the rebuild.

The lack of presidential votes to cut congressional Republican spending as we cut taxes does mean that the Bush tax cuts cost us a lot of money. I don’t know if it’s $4T but it’s not $0.
