Congressman Weiner admits online affairs

"Certainly he can forget about mayor," said Doug Muzzio, a professor of public affairs, at Baruch College in New York, adding that while Weiner might weather the storm, he will likely face a tough challenge if he seeks re-election in 2012.

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi called for an ethics probe "to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violation of House rules occurred." Weiner said in a statement, "I welcome and will fully cooperate with an investigation by the House Ethics Committee."

New York State Republican Party Chairman Ed Cox called for his resignation, saying, "His actions are at best despicable and at worst illegal."

"To further a cover-up he stood by while encouraging others, including Congressional employees, to lie, slander and discredit the professional reputations of those who were telling the truth," Cox said. "His inappropriate behavior has irreparably damaged his ability to serve."

Former Senate Republican aide John Ullyot, a communication consultant at Hill & Knowlton in Washington, said Weiner, "lost a big chance to salvage some dignity by resigning promptly."

"Weiner's handling of this situation is an absolute disaster -- a textbook example of how not to act in a matter involving personal scandal," he said.

"By holding a news conference and answering 30 minutes worth of questions, Weiner opened up many more lines of inquiry than he resolved: the possibility of underage victims, use of office phones, questions of whether his wife was aware..."

I know Weiner's district well. It generally leans Democrat, but one of the reasons why it does is because of all the elderly Italian and Irish people who live in the district - people who were raised as FDR Democrats.

These are people who voted (D) not because of any particular love for Weiner but because of his party.

They are pretty conservative people in terms of their personal mores - he could well lose this seat.

If video emerges of Weiner doing unsavory things, he will be told by the House leadership that he needs to resign so that an untarnished Democrat can start campaigning for that seat.

Weiner is ugly, stooped and even his voice sounds bad.

Yet he gets on Twitter and thinks he is Adonis.

Then he gets in front of the cameras and thinks he is Johnny Carson.

Talk about delusional!

Personally I think he could be a poster boy for the TSA.

Or Congressman Norm Dicks.

Or even Barney Frank.

Isn't it amazing how many politicians have names that signify male genitalia?

The problem is we don’t know if the girls were underage.
Although the ethic’s committee may investigate, it’s time for the FBI
to get involved to determine if underage girls were contacted and what were the extent of the contacts.

I disagree. We need to have this issue addressed and then make a point of getting on with the serious business of fixing the economy and restoring our country to what it should be.

If the dems want to drag their feet, let’s make it known that they want to give Weiner a pass for being a lecherous, dirty old man who has repeatedly put himself in a blackmailable situation and who appears to believe that he has done nothing against the law. The guy is a pervert, a liar and one who apparently tried to get at least one of his ‘friends’ to lie on his behalf. I’m all for getting him gone ASAP, and if we need a full investigation to get the job done, so be it. If it comes to that, then we need to lay the blame and the expense on the dems who support his sleazy lifestyle.

“New York State Republican Party Chairman Ed Cox said....
Ed COX???

Talking about Anthony WEINER?

All we need is for Dick Armey to chime in, and it’s hat trick.”

And don’t forget we have to hear from Peter King to let us know who is really in charge.

Typical Democrat. Takes responsibility for his actions [after lying about it for a week], but refuses to suffer any consequences for his acts.

So Weiner is a skunk. I ask your fellow Freepers, has being a pervert ever hurt Democrats in a Dem stronghold like NYC? I expect Weiner will put this on his list of positive accomplishments and get huzzahs from most Dems whose model of exemplary behavior in these areas is Bill Clinton.

"run for senate"

My reaction as well. I'll bet most lib Dems are wondering what the fuss is all about. They think to themselves "doesn't everyone send explicit photos of themselves to strangers over the internet? It's only those awful, bible-thumping conservatives who are making a noise. Sexual freedom forever!!!"

Didn’t Weiner marry Hillary’s good buddy, Huma, last summer?
This is getting deeper and deeper.
Last summer I thought Huma got married in order to kill the rumors of her and Hillary being too cozy.

BINGO I have been saying this for years.

Why should he resign? No one is Congress is demanding it - not even asking him to. I think many, many of them are sexual obsessives, stalkers, flashers - female members included. No other explanation for the deafening silence.

I agree with this part...

"If the dems want to drag their feet, let’s make it known that they want to give Weiner a pass for being a lecherous, dirty old man who has repeatedly put himself in a blackmailable situation and who appears to believe that he has done nothing against the law. The guy is a pervert, a liar and one who apparently tried to get at least one of his ‘friends’ to lie on his behalf."

Which is why I disagree with this part...

"I’m all for getting him gone ASAP"
