Barack Obama is floundering in a sea of bad news, as White House chief economist jumps ship
The Telegraph UK ^ | June 7, 2011 | Nile Gardiner

If last week wasn’t bad enough for President Obama with the release of a series of dire economic reports, this week is looking even worse, kicking off with the resignation on Monday evening of his chief economist Austan Goolsbee. On Friday Goolsbee struggled to explain an unexpected rise in unemployment figures, comically describing them as a “bump in the road”, hardly reassuring news to the nearly 14 million Americans who are now out of work.

After the announcement, Barack Obama paid tribute to his close friend and soon to be former adviser, with a surreal claim that his administration is actually generating “millions of jobs” at a time when the unemployment lines are actually growing.

Over the past several years, he has helped steer our country out of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. And although there is still much work ahead, his insights and counsel have helped lead us toward an economy that is growing and creating millions of jobs.

It’s not hard to see why Goolsbee is leaving the administration to return to the safer confines of the University of Chicago School of Business, where he taught for 14 years. The economic data on the US economy is relentlessly bad, from rising jobless numbers and declining consumer confidence to a hugely depressed housing market. As former Clinton adviser and Democratic strategist James Carville pointed out on Imus in the Morning on the Fox Business Network, the outlook for 2012 is looking increasingly grim for the president if the job figures don’t improve:

“If 54,000 new jobs is the new standard, it’s going to be a very, very rough 2012 for President Obama. But the three-month average was 160,000. If that is the case, then he will do OK. I

We're all stranded on Gilligan's Island.

For now.

But remember hope and change. We’re going to stop the seas from rising, and allow the planet to heal.

Besides, Obama got Bin Laden. Barbara Walters thought that ensured Obama’s re-election.

In fact the MSM has told us how weak the GOP field is, and that Obama will be re-elected. Let’s just declare the election over right now. The MSM would if they could.

Panic must be setting in with the incompetents in the WH. It would be delightful to watch.

Why does that scene from Deep Impact where the presidential staffer is on the dock loading his boat with Ensure come to mind?

Looks like the Obama WH is losing its power to manipulate job numbers like they have done in the past.

They're beginning to see dark skies ahead for themselves IMO.

Oh, and Romney running ahead of Obama can't feel too good either. Zero has shot his wad in getting people to swoon over his teevee appearances. What's left in the socialist arsenal?

Oh, yeah. Michelle is going to try a media-saturated trip to Africa. Think that'll work?

Goolsbee was so smug on cnbc before obama was elected. He kept saying that he knows what to do about the econmy, criticizing the bush administration. Was he ever wrong. Why would university of chicago take him back? He’s an idiot.

They had told us how many jobs were saved due to Porkulus, and that Porkulus was going to keep unemployment under 8%. Whatever happened with that?

Bad economic news could even touch on illegal immigration. Reason being, how can Obama and liberals try to force through an amnesty for tens of millions of illegals when over 10 million American citizens are unemployed?

Or perhaps liberals think that people don’t think critically about issues and connect dots or any of that. They will just vote for Obama because, well just because. The boys who pick up voters to go the polls on election day will fill out your ballot for you. After they get done slashing tires of Republican vehicles rented to get out the Republican vote, that is.

" ... struggled to explain an unexpected rise in unemployment figures ... "

Such utter booshit

Nothing is unexpected.

If anything, it IS expected to be this and worse ... THAT'S why we MUST extend the debt ceiling, and we MUST pass bailouts Now, and we MUST ...

It's all been smoke n' mirrors just short of preventing pitchforks, hot tar and feathers from marching on Washington.

What? We're too civilized for that?

You think we should accept cowardly, stupidly nominal?

The Boston Tea Party(ers) threw the friggin' tea away !!!
