Deval Patrick raises eyebrows, ire

Lawmakers and unions slammed Gov. Deval Patrick yesterday for triggering a pay-raise bonanza to the tune of nearly $10 million with a 3 percent salary hike for as many as 4,000 state managers — even as Bay State residents face frozen salaries and unemployment.

Jay Gonzalez, Patrick’s finance and administration secretary who released the news of the pay raise, argued that state managers haven’t gotten a raise since July 2007.

“We have to make sure state government is a place where people actually want to work. We need to retain and attract good people,” Gonzalez said, adding that he and Patrick have considered the raises “for some time.”

“It’s do as they say, not as they do,” said Steve Killion, president of the Cambridge Police Patrolman’s Union. “It’s unfortunately the way (Patrick) does business. He does what he wants and he hurts all the hard-working people in this state.”

This area did not get hammered nearly as badly as the rest of the country and IMHO as a resident has began a turnaround,at least from where Im sitting. Now I lay none of the credit at the feet of Patrick-in fact his policies ,like Obamas have no doubt exacerbated things to a large degree-but he can claim credit here for keep the depths of the recession relatively shallow and get backing thanks to the minions that worship their local level liberals and think they were saved from the kind of crashes places like Ohio,CA and Fla have all had.

Sorry, Diogenesis, I love you, man, but I do not agree.

I am intimately knowledgable about Massachusetts and know too many people there who are so liberal, so ingrained in their leftism, that they do indeed hate Republicans.

Are they the majority? No. But there are enough of them to make that state a poisoned well for conservatives. The Republicans who used to rule in Massachusetts were liberals, such as Edward Brooke, the Lodges and the Cabots, and they are gone (with the exception of Romney and Scott Brown, who is in their mold).

When most people in Massachusetts think of Republicans today, they’re thinking of Ronald Reagan, Pat Robertson, Sarah Palin, etc, etc. In other words, conservatives. They hate conservatives. They’d be happy with liberal Republicans, which is one reason the driveby media is always pressing RINOs on us.

A conservative cannot win in Massachusetts. Believe me, I would love to see it. I was stationed on Cape Cod at Otis AFB in November of 1980 when Reagan actually won that state. The rest of the month for me was euphoric. I was also going to college part time, and my very liberal professors were beside themselves. It was so sweet praising the election results in their presence! And they were all threatening to move to Canada, and I was agreeing that they should, and offered to help them pack. Such good times!

However, I do not see that ever happening there again. Sadly....

The Lodges weren’t liberals until Junior, indeed, you didn’t start to get that leftist cancer until the 1930s or later. Senior Lodge was a stalwart Conservative and his grandson was as far afield from him politically as you can get. Remember that JFK beat Jr. Lodge in 1952 by running to his RIGHT. If Lodge had been like his grandfather, JFK would’ve lost.

You end up making it a self-fulfilling prophecy when you push the adage that “Conservatives can’t win” in MA. If you don’t run the candidates and offer people a choice, don’t act surprised when you end up with nothing. Conservatives didn’t reduce the MA GOP presence to zero. Liberal RINOs acting like and doing the work for Democrats did. Reagan won the state twice and he didn’t muddy the message.

As long as liberals continue to control the MA GOP, the wins in the state will be pyrhhic or non-existent. Ignore their edicts and offer a different way and the wins will start to occur again. Does that mean I expect a majority at the next election ? Not at all. But you know and I know the state isn’t reflected in its elected officials. It’s not a 90% Democrat state. Sometimes we make it too easy for the opposition. We could get to a position where we could be a solid 40% opposition, and that would be enough (with a Conservative, non liberal RINO, Governor) to get our agenda through (or at least stop the ultra-left insanity).
