Why I'm a Global Warming Skeptic

Let’s begin by acknowledging that the science of global warming is beyond the vast majority of us. Nonetheless, this does not mean we turn off our brains and simply accept the pronouncements of those sounding the alarm and offering their remedies.

I am a global warming skeptic (to say the least) specifically because I have thought through the issue and the claims of the alarmists just don’t add up. What follows is my thinking and what it is that has led me to conclude that global-warming is a leftist farce which is being perpetuated for both financial and political reasons. First, I am skeptical because skepticism is the scientific starting point. Not cynicism but skepticism. This is especially true when the remedy being proposed is so drastic — in this case requiring the near-total dismantling of society as we know it.

I am not overly impressed by talk of a “consensus” as there are enough good and serious scientists who reject the claims of the alarmists to make the pronouncement of “consensus” simply untrue. Besides, every wrong theory that had previously been embraced by society – such as the “fact” that the world is flat – was embraced by a “consensus” of scientists at the time and obviously that consensus was very wrong.

1500 years ago, there was scientific consensus that the earth was flat. 2000 years ago there was scientific consensus that the earth was the center of the universe. In the Iroquois past, there was scientific consensus that we lived on the back of a great turtle. I dont see where todays scientific consensus is much more advanced than any of that.

My skepticism came from hearing nearly 2 decades of ‘global cooling is going to end civilization.’

Remember the big hole in the Ozone layer?

When ‘global cooling’ wasn’t evident — temperatures seemed to be holding steady or slightly rising — the fear tactic changed to ‘global warming is going to end civilization.’

More recently ‘global warming’ doesn’t seem to be happening, so the new mantra is ‘global climate change is going to end civilization.’

It is all a money gimmick — a way of getting governments and organizations to cough up massive numbers of dollars to fund research projects.

Why I'm a Global Warming Skeptic

Is it because you have a functional brain?

I became a skeptic early on, because I am old enough to know that a ton of “consensus” “facts” had to be changed during my 60 years as man's knowledge increased. For example, compare what was being taught about our solar system in the 40’s and 50’s and even 60’s and even 70’s, to what we began to learn once we left our world...

Sorry, most educated people did not believe the world was flat. The ancient Greeks knew the world was round, as did the Romans. They even had a decent idea of how big the circumference was.

What they didn't know is that the New World was in the middle of the ocean between Europe and Asia. Columbus wasn't worried about sailing over the edge, but his crewmen were worried about running out of water. But Chris did have a map, even if he didn't realize what exactly the map showed. He thought it was India, and thought the world was more pear shaped than round.

Now wait a minute, that thing about the turtle sounds like solid science to me...at least equal to the global warming garbage anyway.

Just as good - the consensus today is that people back then believed the world was flat, even thought the evidence clearly shows that they knew better back then. Clearly a modern consensus can be wrong.

Does anyone remember the “SPACE BLANKET”? Worked on the same principle as the CO2 global warming hypotheses. It was pitched to keep you warm like a sleeping bag. It lasted lest then one season the market.

All things being equal....a consensus isn’t fact.

A-MEN, brother!

Yep, it’s all about Money and Governmental power over OUR lives. It’s a GREAT tool by which to pave the way for totalitarianism.

Predictions have been made by the alarmists, and so far it doesn’t look like any of them are happening. What do they call that kind of phenomenal failure using the verbiage of science?

Very much so! I just hate it when people assume those who came before were stupid. They had the same brains, and were a lot smarter than we give them credit for.

The difference has really been steam, oil, and electricity.

We don't have to use the earth was flat story to prove the point. The twentieth century has numerous examples of bogus science based on a consensus.

One example, is the Piltdown man hoax, where there was almost immediate scientific consensus that it was the evolutionary missing link. Many of the leading scientist claiming it was the missing link never even inspected the skull fragments, but this did not stop them from blasting skeptics.

After about 25 years, the hoax was uncovered as a very poorly assembled fragments and jaw bones. Any rational observer could have immediately spotted he hoax.

We’ve had repeated “Ice Ages” that have lasted thousands of years. What caused the cooling? What caused the ice to finally melt? Whatever it was, it had nothing to do with the activities of humans.

Science did not exist as a method of inquiry until the 16th century.

Until totalitarian regimes can secure their populations by force and threats of force they use misdirection. There is always something “they” are saving us from. Often it is an external enemy, like the United States was to the USSR and China when the US was a beacon of freedom, but now it is more nebulous things like poverty, discrimination, pollution, disease, over population, guns, global cooling, global warming, etc. Regardless, it is all a ploy to gain control of the society.

We, the average American, don’t want a controlled society so they must trick us into accepting their guidance, i.e., control. That is what these pretend threats are all about.
