Libya: Coalition forces prepare two-pronged blitz to finish off Gaddafi

British, French and other Nato forces were on Saturday night preparing a two-pronged blitz to try to finish off Col Gaddafi as already slender hopes for a peaceful resolution to the Libyan crisis faded.

The first daytime bombing raid on the Libyan capital Tripoli on Saturday morning heralded a new stage in the military campaign against the Gaddafi regime.

It hit a military storage base in the centre of Tripoli that has been subject of repeated raids all week.

But a military spokesman said a separate mission the night before had taken out watchtowers on the leadership's Bab al-Azizia compound and threatened to begin opening up its miles of bleak green-painted concrete walls up by precision bombing.

"Last night's action sends a powerful message to the regime's leadership and to those involved in delivering Colonel Gaddafi's attacks on civilians that they are no longer hidden away from the Libyan people behind high walls," Major-General John Lorimer, spokesman for the chief of defence staff, said.

On Saturday evening, it appeared the regime was attempting to open back-door channels to negotiate with the British government.

I love that -- "as already slender hopes for a peaceful resolution to the Libyan crisis faded" -- the jihadists fighting to overthrow the regime have consistently rejected negotiations.

Barry continues to use the US Military illegally to put radicals in charge in Libya.

One of the men who should be stopping this insanity plays golf with the traitor. Who has even mentioned impeachment? The REPUBS say they can't do that, it would be racist.

When does "not doing your job" also rise to treason?

As you try to figure out what Barry is doing in Libya, ask the simple question: What would a radical muslim do? The answer is simple, a radical muslim would attempt to use US Power to put the Muslim Brotherhood in power in Egypt and Al Qaeda into power in Libya.

Everything Barry does is what a radical Muslim plant would do: Hurt America first.

I'm amazed at the sudden, out-of-no-where support by the Hard Left Media for Gaddafi's destruction.

Is this charade supposed to establish Obama’s military credentials before the 2012 election?

Another thing....

It's been, what, three or four years since George Bush bribed and jawboned Gaddafi to end his nuclear weapon development program?

Has anyone thought this through?

Gaddafi is facing certain death or life imprisonment if he loses.

What tyrant, what authoritarian political party, will EVER, EVER, EVER be convinced to give up nuclear weapons again?

You are 1000% correct. This is the biggest betrayal since, well the Egypt betrayal, wait, the Bosnian betrayal.....how about Benedict Arnold? I know it is not that bad, but WTF are we attempting to do except upset the entire world order?

How do you know it's not that bad? The fact is, you don't.

First, was Barry a socialist? Radical Communist with traces of radical dictator is a better description of Barry.

Is Barry a Christian? He went to "church" and then no, he couldn't. Barry does EVERYTHING a Radical Muslim would do to undermine the allies of the United States. He insults England, he insults Israel, he does nothing to help the protesters in Iran but he does everything to help the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, he uses the US Military to attack Libya.

Barry encourages other countries to drill for oil but does everything he can to stop US Production which sends $Billions overseas every year.

Name one thing Barry does to help America. You can't, everything is to destroy America. Re-elect this traitor and America is finished.

Yep, I am glad to see the MSM doesn't just do it when Republicans are in power, or maybe they forgot who the President is.

The plan is for something different—something backhanded and mean—The announced plan is all dis-information. These are the French and The British masters at dirty warfare. Watch and see how a war should be won.

Other than the Falklands, please name the last two wars the French or the British actually won.

Libya, the weaker more cooperative state, is assaulted, but the Syrians and Iranians are completely ignored.

Europe, the ME, the Left, and the rest of the World got the Obama they ordered.

Ok...ok I'm cool now...Just gotta breath...snicker...

BWAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA! That's a good one man.

Oh...you're not being sarcastic...my bad.

This ain't disinformation being spread as part of a brilliantly schemed intelligence op...No sir...not even close. This is BS being slung to somehow salvage some sort of dignity for the Euro led clusterfuck of a military campaign, and hopefully to fool the "Less Nuanced" Cowboy Americans into supporting the Libya issue enough so Obama can go to Congress and get approval to save the Euros asses. Fat chance.

The shot callers of the euro team...wanting to show the world and those Cocky Americans that they too are still relevant militarily, decided taking out ole momar had become necessary and prudent. They were tired of paying the price they agreed to with Momar. Those terms were agreed upon under duress as Momar had all of Europe reacting to a Arab strongman like they usually do...groveling..ass kissing...and weakness. "The Arabs will stop trying to kill us if we just give them X" has been their foreign policy strategy for dealing with Arab nations for 50 years. They prattle on how their way of dealing with the Arab problem is the enlightened way and us Americans are stupid cowboys whose show of force will only breed more angry Arabs. All we heard from Europe was how we were making a grave error invading Iraq. Blah blah. We'd be drug down in an unwinnable war by a "Frat Boy" President.

Iraq was actually somewhat of a military force...way bigger and better equipped than Momars. Iraq actually had armored divisions, modern AA radars and missle batteries, and a large army. While the military showed their loyalty to Saddam by surrendering to the first Americans they saw...his intelligence service was large, efficient, loyal, well funded and well established all across Europe and America.

When we started the armored thrust into Iraq, our tanks were outnumbered 3-1. Within a few short weeks the 3rd was in Bagdad having completed the fastest armored thrust in modern warfare. The soldiers were set up for such success by the total domination of Saddam in his home country by the team that planned the invasion, even after Turkey screwed us at the last minute eliminating the very crucial anvil 4th ID would be bringing from the North. Saddam thought Turkey saved his bacon. Saddam thought that even if we were foolish enough to still send in the main armored force from the south, he could easily defend it and stop it well before Bagdad. Without the thrust from the north, any armored thrust from Kuwait wouldn't have the supply lines necessary to reach Bagdad. And he was basically right.

What he didn't count on or see coming was the brilliant, daring, and outright ballsy counter to the problems Turkey caused our plans. No one saw us being able to position an armored force on Iraq's western flank with Saudi Arabia so fast, no one saw us actually thinking that even if we got the force in place on that flank, no way would we attempt an armored thrust to Bagdad from that position. There would be no chance of supply lines, and the terrain was not favorable for a blitzing armored thrust.

It was a gutsy, risky, call made under extreme duress and pressure(By Turkey), the presuure from knowing if they didn't come up with something, the huge effort getting the invasion force in theater would be wasted. On the other hand, everything they had learned studying every military campaign and invasion route in the history of man told them not to even think about it.

The whole invasion depended on two armored thrusts arriving at about the same time. While one was traveling a historic invasion route over main roads so the timing was fairly certain, the other was traveling over sparse, barren terrain with no major roads along a route never before tried by an invading force in one of the most invaded places in the world.

It was a given the southern thrust would be on time, but it was very much in doubt the marines could. It would take a heroic effort by every marine involved, nothing going wrong, and a good deal of luck to hit the target time within a week. The thing is...for the plan to work...both thrusts had to arrive within the same day or two. If the marines coming from the west are still 100 miles out when 3rd armor gets to bagdad, both thrusts are cut off and sitting ducks. If the marines don't get there...all those Iraqi tanks 3rd armored raced by untouched on the way to Bagdad are now coming from their rear, cutting them off from escape and supply, with a huge advantage in numbers. Instead of seeing 3rd armored roll into Bagdad untouched on CNN, we would've heard of their destruction.

But against some very long odds, like the marines usually face, odds so long that Saddam nor his generals worried about defending a thrust from that direction. Odds so long that when that thrust showed up right on time from the west and north, the sheer shock and surprise caused total chaos and clusterfuck in what was a formidable defense around Bagdad.

Matter of fact, Turkey screwing us actually worked in our favor. Had the invasion went as planned, with Turkey allowing us to launch a thrust with 4ID from the north, Saddam knew it was coming. Best case scenario, the defense of Bagdad is much more cohesive and effective. We still would've taken Bagdad, but it would've cost way more men, time, and tanks.

When Turkey screwed us, Saddam took the tanks he was guarding the northern thrust with and moved them with the rest he had guarding the south. When the marines showed up in force along the northern and western approaches to the city, his entire tank force was south of the city in prepared defenses with prepared fields of fire. Within a few hours, because the sight of those marine tanks showing up where they had no business being sent Saddam and his generals in a panic. Command cohesion was lost, unit cohesion was lost, panicked tank drivers trying to follow confusing and conflicting orders were pulled out of prepared defenses and sent into easy killing zones. The rest is history.

That, my friend, is an example of War making mastery. In 3 weeks, one of the worlds largest armored forces was took out the game. One of the fastest armored thrusts in modern warfare history was made, a ballsy call on it's own right. But add in the call forced by Turkey screwing us, the call to send in the marine armor from the west, a call made because the marine in command of that armor, when asked if he could do it, said my marines will do whatever I ask of them. And they by god did.

On the other hand,Libya and Momar don't even come close in comparison. For months now, the embarrassing spectacle of ole crazy momar making fools out of the Euro nato command who undertook this on their own, who didn't need or want America involved, who thought removing Momar from power would be over within a week.

And unlike America in Iraq, this is wholly, soley, for no other reason than oil. Europe's oil supply. Through their willingness to let America and it's Navy pay to protect their interests in the shipping lanes, and their policy of dealing with strong armed Arab dictators through weakness, Europe was not in a strong position to garner cheaper, more stable oil like the US. No, they had to settle for Momar and his Libyan oil on terms not in their favor. It was ok back before crude prices blew up. It was ok, the euros said, we can pay more for oil because America and their taxpayers pay for our protection so we don't have to.

Well...the crude price explosion along with the growing money issues plaguing their Union forced them into a drastic decision. If they took Momar out, in exchange the new government would give them cheaper oil.

And here we are...MONTHS later. First..it was a Euro issue and Euro would handle it. Then...we may need American air support. Now....you're pretty much begging us to take over.

Mastery of War? My ass. The much lauded Euro union got manhandled by Momar. He has skillfully outplayed the entire Euro command in charge of that operation from start to finish. I'm still waiting for the news of Momar's death or capture, which we were told daily was imminent any day. That nonsense stopped weeks ago.

When the euros realized the domination Momar had publically put on them, and realized that once again, the Euros...who are always proclaiming to the world how much more civilized, intelligent, and nuanced they are over Americans. The euros who accused America of invading Iraq for oil, who claim our Foreign Policy is run by amatuer cowboys....The tried to quietly get their pal Obama to enjoin America without it looking like they came begging for us to save them again.

Well...that worked for a few weeks until enough time passed that he would actually have to go ask congress for it's ok, which he won't get. Unlike Bush, who went straight to congress and won with Yes votes from several senators and congressfolks that later acted as if no one would remember they voted for the Iraq war. And they were right, most of America believes Bush illegally went to war with Iraq, and refuse to believe me when I tell them that Hillary, Kerry, and most of the dims voted for Iraq.

Well, now Obama is being forced to follow the rules him and the entire dem party accused Bush of breaking for Iraq. Obama has actually hinted that if he is forced to, he will bypass congress to solve the Libya problem. Dims and the media have been forced to squirm and contort to somehow support Obama and the Libyan problem without coming off as total hypocrites to the public.

Well...It's looking like America ain't coming to save your asses from your so called"French and British mastery of warfare". It's looking like you're gonna have to show us "How a war should be won" without America coming to do it for ya.

Actually..I'm sure the war planning geeks at west point have already broken down this TOTAL EPIC FAIL of whatever it is CNN is calling it this week. Problem...Issue...conflict. Whatever...but it damn sure ain't a "war",,,and it will be taught to every future cadet as an example of How a far superior military force can be made a fool of by a crazy African dictator and his "military".
