I agree with the Libtard who wrote the article. It should be obvious to anyone with half a brain, including you Freepers, that that every farmer, rancher, tradesman and craftsman will quickly trade in their pickup truck for something more practical ... like this ... or a Chevy Volt ... just as soon as Government Motors begins to make them in large quantities.

Truck sales will boom in 2013 when Obozo is gone!Yes they will boom under the Palin Administration... One of my "gnomes" noted he is on a next generation design team of a "popular" one and that is all he will say, my guess it will come out during her tenure...... he he....
On a side note, I think next year the Ford Trucks get a Start/Stop feature that shuts the engine off @ stop lights for an 8% fuel economy gain. That is a lot and not adding all the weight and hardware of a full hybird system.

And yet there is a waiting list to get a new Ford Explorer SUV. That is hardly a small car. I'd be willing to bet that the Ford F-150 is still the #1 selling vehicle of any kind sold in the USA.

I always liked the p/u truck as transformed into a station wagon.

While the headline is quite misleading, the fact remains that pickup truck sales have gone from almost 20% fifteen years ago down to 12% this year, with a forecast of 10% for the near future. It would be more accurate to speak of pickups simply being half as popular as they used to be, but that wouldn’t be as sensational a headline.

I found some May YTD 2011 numbers:
F-Series - 214,000 sales, up 10.6% vs 2010
Silverado - 150,206, up 10.6%
Ram - 90,000, up 30%
etc, etc...only Nissan and Toyota are down, and I bet that’s supply related.
YTD the Volt is around 2,000....ITS THE WAVE OF THE FUTURE! Send them more money!

I own a Honda Civic, but when the winter weather gets bad, I borrow my mother’s SUV. Hopefully, the state won’t take it when she passes.

Thanks. These era trucks don’t have inner fenders so every kicked up rock leaves a ping. Periodically I tap them out and rattle-can the finish - good as new!

It might have been a reprint from 1911?
As long as people need to haul stuff, we will always have pickups.

Is this guy counting the F150, or is he talking about bigger trucks. The F150 has been Ford's most reliable profit center for years.
To: nhwingut
If I read this correctly, they are talking only a 2% drop in total sales...but I could be wrong.
