Is higher joblessness rate the 'new normal'?

WASHINGTON - A "new normal" is emerging for the U.S. jobs market, and a growing number of economists warn that it's likely to mean that unemployment will remain persistently high, at 7 percent or more, for years to come.

The 9.1 percent unemployment rate reported in May remains high by post-World War II standards long after the economy resumed growth following the worst recession in 70 years. It's prompting economists to rethink basic assumptions about the U.S. labor market.

As long as illegal immigration isn’t dealt with, and we allow imports from the Red China slave state with no quality controls/health safeguards, there is no way the unemployment rate can improve much. Global trade is one thing (and not helping matters), but these 2 issues are most damaging.

Even the greatest economic engine in the world is going to slow up at some point given the rate capital (jobs, IP, etc) is leaving the country.

When you become a socialist, welfare state like France then double-digit unemployment is the norm.

We could accept 40% as being normal if we chose to accept it.
In days one by 5% was excessive and a reason to kick a government out. Now the government wants us to be programmed into acceptance..... as Obama plays in the economy...jacking energy prices, jacking taxes, over extending credit, destroying the private sector while increasing the public sector and injecting all kinds of Obamarisk into the markets.....

I would like to think ~and hope~ at some point the working stiff is going to call “bullshit” on Obama.

Yes, unexpected certainty is in our future.

I'm personally starting for the first time in 4 decades to eat my retirement for lunch and heading back to MN via preference, pay off the mortgage there, and look for work.

My wife lost her job at age 62. She reluctantly took early SS after realizing her chances were dim at getting hired, even with strong skills in her field.

There is a bit of irony to the US losing jobs to foreign turf while foreigners are pouring into the US for a better life, isn't there?

Exporting our jobs and manufacturing, importing tens of millions of third world illegal aliens, and promoting couch sitting bon bon eating welfare entitlement crowd and you’ve created a recipe for economic disaster.

Well, it’s the normal for much of Europe. Why anyone wants to “europeanize” us, I don’t understand. From our very beginning, we rejected European values, royalty, politics, etc.

When did the economy “resume growth,” McClatchy? I must have missed that.

I know that all the economists said that the recession was over, but I must have missed that, too.

And they still insist that there’s no inflation, although people who buy food or fuel might question that, too.

Never mind—four years without an increase in social security, because Obama says there’s no inflation, and the media say NOTHING. But they smash the Republicans for even suggesting that Medicare might need reform—even though Obama is busy cutting that, too.

It is as long as Obastard or any other Rat is in charge.

The only proper response.

It is in the Democrats' interest to keep us poor, dependent and desperate.

It is in the Republicans' interest to keep us confused.

And it is in the Tea Party's interest to improve the economy, recognize our freedom and reward our optimism.

IF the Rats supposedly represent the poor, that means that they need poor people to remain poor to stay in power.

9% will be acceptable and the new norm as long as there are enough people perfectly content to have the gov’t take care of them. That number is increasing every day.
