WASHINGTON - A "new normal" is emerging for the U.S. jobs market, and a growing number of economists warn that it's likely to mean that unemployment will remain persistently high, at 7 percent or more, for years to come.

The 9.1 percent unemployment rate reported in May remains high by post-World War II standards long after the economy resumed growth following the worst recession in 70 years. It's prompting economists to rethink basic assumptions about the U.S. labor market.

The Democrat Party should be renamed The Poverty Party.

Unemployment has never been lower than 9.1%. We expect to lower that to 11% next year!

High unemployment is only the “new normal” for the remainder of the Obama administration. Journalists are now pitching this idea that Barry is not responsible for his incompetent handling of the economy.

Politically, it's living and breathing.

1. Only when Democrats are in charge.
2. As long as illegal immigration remains unlimited.
3. As long as Obamacare remains in existence.
4. As long as the EPA kills coal-fired electricty generation.
5. As long as annual trillion dollar deficits are the norm.
6. As long as Marxists are in charge of the economy.
7. As long as the U.S. remains a socialist welfare state like France.
8. As long as the dollar continues to shrink in value.
9. As long as we export our manufacturing jobs.
10. As long as Obama is President.

I read yesterday that Spain is at 20% unemployment.

Must be all those great ‘green jobs’.

I think our actual unemployment rate is closer to 20% than 9.whatever.

So, as we come nearer to Obama’s vision of a social-democrat compact like those found in Europe, we ALSO MATCH their incorrigible levels of unemployment, especially for the minorities, right? What greatness has been wrought by this community organizer!

I'll huff and I'll puff till I blow your economy in.

Employment is an impediment to any good Marxist's objectives!!

You want to spur jobs and growth? Easy. Cut the spending, cut the government, cut the regulations, cut the red tape, cut the bureaucracy, lower the taxes and get the hell out of the way!

Leaning towards collapse1
Dems says people who took home loans were tricked. No, you Dems pushed your social engineering policies on the mortgage markets and ruined the nation's economy. And all of us are paying for it.
The debt bomb has already gone off! We are just waiting for the shockwave to reach our house! No shelter and no place to go...

Winning rule in 2012: Direct political attack on Obama!

Hopefully Zer0's massive incompetence will move more people to vote against him in 2012. We'll see.

Countdown until Obama leaves Office: 587 days as of June 12, 2011.

McClatchy | 6-11-11 | kevin hall

Yes, it will be the new normal and it will be just fine with McClatchy and the rest of the Democrat media... Until a Conservative or Republican is elected, only then will they start the attacks on joblessness anew.

No. The unemployment rate will go down, when they’re all out of work long enough. And there will be many millions more during the default process. So the new normal will be far uglier.

This joblessness rate is only normal with the current level of governmental intrusions into business.

Reduce government control and business will increase, resulting in more people working.
