Bachmann Favors National Sales Tax
NewsMax ^ | 6/13/2011 | Martin Gould

Prospective presidential candidate Michele Bachmann says she wants a national sales tax, but can’t vote for it because she believes Congress would just add it to the current income tax system.

In a profile in The Wall Street Journal, Bachmann says she loves the FAIR tax proposal but just cannot bring herself to back it in the House.

“If we were starting over from scratch, I would favor a national sales tax," the three-term Minnesota congresswoman says. But the reality is that if it were enacted, the chances are “we would end up with a dual tax, a national sales tax and an income tax."

Bachmann says her tax plan would be to take corporate rates down from 35 percent to nine percent and “zero out” capital gains tax, the alternative minimum tax and the death tax.

But she says the main problem with the U.S. tax system is that nearly half the population pays nothing. She says all deductions should be abolished “because there is no tie to the government benefits that people demand.

“Everyone should have to pay something," she insists.

If a fair tax got rid of ALL tax breaks, tax cheats and tax preparers then it would be a great thing.
Don’t count on it.

There is a whole universe of professionals: lawyers, conservation lobbyists, accountants, etc....that are linked onto that food chain...

Personally I love the idea. But after seeing how Mark Crist was able to use it to demagogue his way into John Murtha’s old seat, I’m afraid it spells political death amongst the sheeple.

Just more lily livered Bachmannisms.

Last week she said she would like to support the Ryan plan but seniors don't understand that they will not be impacted.

WTH???

I always knew she was for this. She is a tax attorney she knows how to do it. She will also downsize big gov. big time. She is very fiscally savvy and intelligent that is why the fiscal conservatives and Independents like her.

For one thing... Corporate tax rates are in fact much higher then just 35%. The US leads the world in the highest corporate tax rates. Period.

But Bachmann is thinking forward here. And that's all good

Exactly....which is why it won’t happen through conventional legislative means.

Bachmann has stated from the get go she is for a fair tax. And the Current Ryan plan would not effect Seniors.

OK ONE MORE TIME for all of you “Fair/Flat Tax” DUMBASSES, if you do NOT REPEAL this Amendment to the US Constitution(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixteenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution) the you WILL end up w/ your new “Flat/Fair Tax” AND the income tax. YOU MUST KILL the 16th!

You are correct. Whenever I hear a Fair Tax discussion, however, I hear “Prebates” and other such things. This is why I prefer a flat tax, personally.

No kidding...it’s llike a whole industry unto its self.

Just another reason it’ll never happen, sad but likely true.

I would actually support a flat tax vs the fair tax though, not that it has a chance in he!! either.

Color her gone. Another who thinks people only pay income taxes.

Is there any conservative who doesn’t want to abolish the IRS? It will never happen, though. What was the last federal government office to be abolished?

obviously if she supports this scam she is off the ladder.

a monthly welfare check,

the federal government requiring registration of all family units.

the federal government defining what is a family unit

an ENDLESS parade of k street lobbyists asking for exemptions or preferences in prebates and tax exempt status.

it is just old irs for NuIrs.

a pure scam.

she is pandering to the rubes.

I know the Ryan plan doesn't effect senior, but Queen Michelle doesn't want to support it because too many seniors don't understand the plan.

Bachmann. Such promise coming out of the state legislature, but she has been minimized by her own party and is nothing more than a back bench bomb thrower.

That's OK. I'm sure there are jobs for them that illegal aliens won't do.
