Federal and state agents are searching a 30-square-mile swath of rugged Montana forest for a former militia leader following a shootout with sheriff's deputies, authorities said.

moose-litia?
Given the government’s aggressive tactics in the last decade or so, I’ll give this guy the benefit of the doubt until I learn more about what is going on.
Quick! Send in Lon Horiuchi! /s
Only White men are dangerous, the Islamic savages have been “oppressed”.\s
Have the Feds committed the F-16’s like they did at Ruby Ridge, and the helicopter gunships, like they did at Mt Carmel by Waco? What about the FLAMETHROWERS?
In July 2004, Burgert pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess illegal firearms, possession of a machine gun and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Federal prosecutors argued he led a group that amassed machine guns and explosives. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Burgert had been arrested in February 2002 after a standoff and a chase. He had a machine gun when he was arrested, and authorities found thousands of rounds of ammunition and homemade explosives while searching sites associated with Project 7.
At the time, officials in Flathead County in far northwestern Montana said that Project 7 also conspired to kill local police officers, judges and county prosecutors.
NBC station KCFW reported that authorities in 2002 discovered a hit list of government officials who Burgert hoped to assassinate.
From what I’ve seen, the guy sounds like a nut and I’m more inclined to believe the feds are attaching him to a militia group.
Given that this is MSNBC, the fugitive’s “militia” connection is probably nothing more tha a couple of dusty old John Birch pamphlets.
“Armed and extremely dangerous”
May that be said of all of us.
you’re a bitter clinger,too ?
Hmmm... Did he kill any? If not, why not?
I'm calling "BS"!
Sounds like a harmless big mouth who likes things that go "bang." .
... It's the quiet ones you have to worry about...
Armed and extremely dangerous
“”May that be said of all of us.””
Roger That. and well said!
The LEs on various levels are kicking in doors, openly assassinating a Marine here in Tucson, harassing and humiliating a guy in Stockton, many other examples. I no longer assume that LE is in the right.
Agreed!
Having lived through the Detroit riots and having our house the only one on the block NOT burned down due to our overwhelming fire power, I cherish our gun rights.
Jackasses like these are an embarrassment at the least.
If he can just make it to Ruby Ridge...
Pete King’s hearings are heating up again and the feds need a dangerous right wing militia fugitive badly.
Talked smack about the government
Ran a Stop sign
Slow speed chase
Paranoid Personality disorder
Owned guns and ammo
Why do I smell a set up?
“The former militia leader allegedly responded to commands that he surrender by shooting at deputies before disappearing into the forest.”
Let’s be honest here, folks - I can’t be the only one on here whose immediate, gut-level first impression was, “I’d hide the guy,” can I?

I’m not bitter, but I am a clinger. ;-)
You missed the part about shooting at police.

Rambo !!
It would be great to get an interview before he gets Guerena’d.
This guys first felony was for an unregistered machine gun. Next was "felon in possession of a firearm". Neither of which should have been a crime to begin with under "Shall not be infringed".
Can't say as I can bring myself to condemn this guys actions.
Shot at what we are told were police. What he knew or believed them to be might differ.
Here they have a guy who is known to be very mentally ill and they just turned him loose ~ to do what?
The neighbors aren't afraid, but the cops are, and rightly so. Reminds me a lot of Bucky Phillips in New York ~ he managed to tie down a considerable part of both the New York and Pennsylvania State Police.
There's a judge out there who should be even more afraid ~ he should be FIRED!
Another Ruby Ridge?
This seems to be the standard package of crap thrown in for arrests or propaganda involving militia personalities or "militia types."
I wonder what happens if people refuse to join Obamacare or pay fines?
That’s called an “arsenal” in repressive statist lingo.
He has been DIAGNOSED as a paranoid schizophrenic.
That would make anyone very concerned, even the concern trolls ~ they really would.
A parole board and a federal judge created this situation.

Personally I think it would be best to let him wander in the woods for a while to calm down. It doesn’t mean I think he’s innocent but hunting him isn’t going to lend itself to a peaceful solution.
I did the machine gun score you hear in "The Green Beret", a John Wayne Movie.
Couldn't hear for two weeks, but those precision bursts of 3, bursts of 4, bursts of 6 ~ that's me. It's not just tattitatat.
If need be I could have dismantled wood frame houses with a few hundred rounds.
Although I do believe the government owes it to me and should provide me with my very own M60 and a couple of pallets of ammunition, I don't believe you can be trusted with one of those devices. They really are too much for the untrained.
Like, all things considered, what’s he going to do out there? Steal campers’ food from bears or what?
Whether he is a bad guy, a nut, or a good guy “one of us” being framed, we’ll never know.
And these type examples should put paid to the silly notion that somehow there will be widespread armed resistance of the 18th century variety against 21st century jackboots.
They will divide and conquer easily. They will call you a gun hoarder, claim you abused your children, assaulted your ex-girlfriend once....
Simultaneous, organized resistance is one thing. But if it’s not organized, and it’s not concerted, then teotwaki for rkba will just be a news-blackout of thousands of these assaults one at a time.
When the shtf, they’ll pull the plug, isolate us, put out the alert for neighbors to turn in suspicious “lilly-white terrorists” and they will be able to whittle away at us one by one. They won’t even go door to door. It will be a neighborhood here, a neighbor there. Tomorrow, a different town, then next door. Then another neighborhood, then you.
No matter. Hey, what’s on TV tonight?
What exactly does that mean ? He conspired to possess illegal firearms and did some inquiries ?
How about this ~ let’s take over the government through elections FIRST and then round them up.
Eric Rudolph is a perfect example of how many of these situations might end once the pressure is off. A deputy stumbled across him and Rudolph gave up without a fight.
Let’s hope we still have that option and the electorate is not gone so far down the raathole to choose it!
Flathead, Montana?
Isn’t that where Chuck Baldwin recently moved to?

I voted for Chuck for potus in ‘08!
