Coral Gables: Keep parked pickup trucks out of sight overnight

CORAL GABLES— Starting this month, the city of Coral Gables will issue warning notices to owners of pickup trucks who do not park their trucks inside their garages at night.

Since the 1960s, the city has banned people from parking their pickup trucks in their driveways or on city streets from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.

After Aug. 8, Coral Gables will start issuing tickets to people who violate the parking ban.

The city has resumed enforcement of this controversial law because last month, the Florida Supreme Court decided not to consider an appeal by Lowell Kuvin, who sued Coral Gables in 2003 after code enforcement officers cited him for parking his pickup truck on a residential street.

City spokeswoman Maria Rosa Higgins Fallon said, "Historically, Coral Gables has gone through great lengths to preserve its character through the enforcement of its zoning code, a reason why in a downward economy, property values in Coral Gables have fared better than in other neighboring communities."

Fallon said Tuesday she didn't know how much fines would be.

Thugs are thugs and always will be. Who is REALLY to blame for this fiasco? I suggest the idiot voters. Next election they will probably re seat the same politicians that is screwing them. I say let them get screwed on and on until they wise up, if that is possible. Those same citizens will undoubtedly vote Obama again too.

What is wrong with my pickup that you do not like? I am a taxpayer like all you rich folks!!!

As one of the "rich folks", I have no problem with pickup trucks or their owners, and that applies even more to work trucks than to the luxury SUV-like pretty trucks. I do, however, have a huge problem with this law. If I got ticketed for my pickup, I'd have fun with the intrusive government and their snitches - spend a couple hundred dollars on a car like the one above to park in its place (I could afford to put that body on another car's frame after the functional car passed the state inspection and emissions tests if necessary). The answer is to make the thugs in Big Government regret every time they stick their overdeveloped noses into other people's business.

Many years ago, I was bullied by a team of union thugs. I was underage, under-grown, and had no chance to resist, but I swore then that I would never again bow to the far left's evil, and I plan to keep that promise for as long as I live. National socialists, soviet socialists, Obama socialists, petty HOA lovers, and other big government tyrants will get zero cooperation from me, zero respect, and any compliance will not be in the direction they are looking for.

And what if you’re like me and live in a house that doesn’t freaking HAVE a garage? Would I have to sell my scratched, faded, rusty 1996 Ram? That’s total insanity.

Or even if people (gasp) paint houses different colors, or have different trees.

There are even places where you can drive by and the yards are absolutely filled with ( shudder ) children playing.

They voted the scum in, they can vote them out again.

But until they do, they should do as the masters command and bow their heads when one passes by. One never looks one’s better in the eye

As long as I can park my motor home on the street, I'm happy!

Tallahassee need to pass a uniform law.

note how they admit they can’t ban ownership.

This is just the “keep the wrong sort out” delusion.

old poops who think suv is a commercial pickup truck.

Peachtree City Ga issues citations if you leave your garage door open EVEN WHILE YOU ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF CUTTING YOUR GRASS.

A few years ago there was a situation in Frisco, TX (high-end gated community on Legacy Dr., north of highway 121) where a HOA told a home owner he couldn't park his truck in his truck in his driveway... he owned a new Ford F-150 pick-up. The HOA said if it was a Lincoln pick-up (or other "luxury" truck) he'd be able to leave in his driveway.

I believe the HOA relented after the $h** storm unleashed not long after the resident went public with his situation.

Funny thing is that this is precisely what type of trucks you will find in Coral Gables. It's a very expensive area.

I don’t care if the land doubled thru the crisis, is it worthwhile? No thanks. Where I live, a pickup truck is a badge of honor, and you get extra points for however many guns are in the rack.

I like your truck too.

We’d be fined fo sho. My husband’s company truck doesn’t fit in our garage. The big AT tires make that thing so high it would hit the top of the door. He also has a hard permanent antenna thing that sticks up about 4 inches on the top.

I don’t think he could get a replacement vehicle from work because of some she she poo poo rules.

I can’t believe I’m reading something like this. Stupid comes to mind.

I got news for folks who own those 4 door pickups like taht pictured.

That thing isn’t going to fit in a modern garage designed for smaller cars.

My 73 Oldsmobile 88 Convertible leaves the back hanging out of most new garages.

Do they Consider the Escalade with the 2 foot bed a pick-up truck? How about the Lincoln with the pickup bed?

Codicils are mainly a pain in the azz, but when some craphead starts a codicil war the results are always bad,
