Viewpoints: Racist cartoon of Obama forces me to leave GOP

I was one of those rare species: a black Republican, the guy willing to spit into the wind of conventional thought, who was often showcased on camera at party events to prove inclusiveness.

But as a proud black man, I can no longer be a member of the Republican Party.

Being a Republican has long been a part of my personal and professional identities, so leaving the party is a difficult and emotional decision.

In 1998, as a young man searching for what I believed were shared values, I cut ties with the Democratic Party and became a Republican. Democrats, in my view, had become unwelcoming to those holding center-right views not in lockstep with the party, and it was my belief that through hard work, the Republican Party could be utilized as a vehicle for improving our community.

For the next 13 years, I dedicated myself to growing the conservative base of the Republican Party, and in the process bound myself in emotion and deed.

...Ken Barnes is a small-business owner in Sacramento and a member of the executive committee of the California State Conference of the NAACP.

Hey, Dude...how much bitching did you do about all the Democrat depictions of George Bush as an ape?

Forget that, what about the racist cartoons featuring Condi Rice? The liberal knucklehead who produced those should have been burnt at the stake.

So what is he going to do when he sees signs from the left that are much, much worse?

Leave the Dems to come back over to the Right or find a way to dismiss it.

We don’t need him.

Bye, bye

Being a Republican is rejecting human parasitism. This person was looking for a reason to justify latching on to sugar mama’s teat. The fact is, in a room full of Democrats, I would be the only one who didn’t give a rat’s dingleberries what color anyone’s skin happened to be. And I’d be branded a racist for that. The irony makes me want to strangle people.

I know what the problem is.

See this cartoon is only in black and white.

Obama’s actually painting it over in Kremlin Red.

I notice that the Bee manages to omit a picture of the allegedly racist cartoon, and replaces it instead with a picture of a man with a home-made sign comparing 0bama with Castro.

Oh the villainy! Oh the racism!

Another reason to “call BS” on this is:

The cartoons he’s talking about all came out years ago. (Never mind that they were done by a few individuals, not the party, and were the objects of immediate condemnation within the party. Tsk. Never mind that. And never mind all the chimp comparisons made vs. Bush 43.)

YEARS ago.

Yet only now he’s discovered them and that they bother him? So much (unlike ... say ... the Bush 43 chimp comparisons) that he’s leaving the party ... to support a President who’s been in office 2.5 years and has nothing but debt to show for it?

This guy is a plant. His reasoning is BS.

He’s like the “lifelong republicans” that call talk radio and say that, out of conscience, they must finally leave the party because it’s not super liberal. :-)

Someone who works for the NAACP claiming to have been a Republican? I call BS.

Read his list of supporters. The first is a Democrat State Assembly member.

RINO, bu-bye!
