I think the devilish detail here would be to ask them exactly what "equal rights" means in their legislation.
Another question might be to ask: "What exactly will be the ramifications if the American citizenry does not agree with their definition of what constitutes "equal rights" for homosexuals?"
In other words, will Islamic countries now be subject to UN condemnation and sanction for routinely executing homosexuals? Or will the US be subject to the same.... for refusing to allow them to marry each other?

“Equal rights” are not the only thing that needs clarification. I saw no clear definition of “sexual orientation” in the article. Does this mean pedophilia, bestiality, and necrophilia are acceptable to the UN?
