"Al-Sharif, a 32-year-old computer security consultant, was arrested last month in the city of al-Khobar... The human-rights organization said al- Sharif was forced to sign a pledge that she wouldn’t drive again and was released 10 days later..."

When I heard a CBC radio interview on this story of Saudi women in 1990 and now being officially abused for simply driving, the image of the Queen of England driving a WWII truck popped into my head.

It's ironic to think that a head of state, the Queen of England, the "Supreme Governor of the Church of England" could be the poster child of women's rights and even western culture in many oppressive countries.

Here's a photo or two that I'm sure would be banned from their online communities.

"Later, the princess worked as an ambulence driver in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. As the press has rightly pointed out, she is the last living head of state to have actually served in World War II."

cool info about the Queen. worthy of respect i think.
(even if she dislikes our President...)

as for Saudi not letting women drive, we should not criticise. All cultures are equally valid
(and this has nothing to do with their religion, even though it specially says women are inferior in intelligence and morals...)

This is the ONLY way that the Middle east will ever change.
And that is for the Muslim Women to crack the whip on the sexually frustrated Muslim Men.
