About 15 minutes after police detectives from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey pulled Dominique Strauss-Kahn off a Paris-bound flight, he told them he had diplomatic immunity, according to a document filed by prosecutors on Thursday.
Then, after he was handcuffed, Mr. Strauss-Kahn, managing director of the IMF asked to speak to someone from the French consulate and requested that his handcuffs be secured in front of him rather than behind his back. When it became clear that he would miss his flight, he asked to make a call so he could let people know he would not be at a meeting. These exchanges were among a series of 17 brief statements that prosecutors say Mr. Strauss-Kahn made to the police on May 14, in the hours after they allege he sexually assaulted a housekeeper who came to clean his hotel suite in Midtown Manhattan. They range from the mundane the polices offers and Mr. Strauss-Kahns requests for food and water and to use a bathroom to the sometimes coarse realities of the criminal justice system, like his complaints that his handcuffs were too tight and his eventual statement that he would not (in fact, could not) assert diplomatic immunity.
"snip" It was not until nearly five hours after he was pulled off the flight, and after he had been driven from the airport to the offices of the Manhattan Special Victims Squad, that Mr. Strauss-Kahn first asked to speak to a lawyer.

Aren’t foreign diplomats/officials briefed on what to do, whom to call, if you are in trouble in a foreign country?
Just the basics like “Shut up, except to ask for a lawyer”.
If only DSK had watched Law & Order or SVU, he might not have
been so clueless. Not intellectual enough for the elite /s
DSK is going to have a lot of time to watch now.
It does sound as if this was a planned departure, as he had meetings at the other end. Or so he states. If he fled on an unscheduled flight, it makes him seem more guilty.
Still no word on his account of what happened in that hotel room.
Planned or not, he wouldn’t have been coming back.
Or has France decided to send Roman Polanski back while I wasn’t looking?
It was a scheduled flight. Duh.
And whatever happened in his hotel room, DSK obviously didn't think it was anything but his due as a Frenchy Frog heading up the IMF. LOL! Certainly nothing to hide from or run from!
May his predicament drive a wedge between Europe and the United States, between those Americans who admire Europe and those who are proper Americans, and between the elites and the worthy!
2012 is about putting a full stop to the creeping Europeanization of the United States.
No matter if your the head of the IMF or a perfectly innocent FReeper. Don't talk to the police! Nothing you say can help you.
rumor has it the flight was scheduled but not with him on it, he also did not tell the hotel he was leaving his $3,000 per night room and he left some of his personal property behind.
Thanks Cincinna.
DSK obviously left property and evidence behind. It is detailed in the complaint. You can read it at the link I posted.
It doesn’t matter whether he was scheduled for that flight, or not. He committed a crime and was caught sitting on an Air France plane ready to take off for Paris in 10 minutes.
What is astonishing is that it took him five hours to ask for a lawyer.

NYT is not behind a paywall, you just have to register to read articles. The pdf of the actual Voluntary Disclosure Form is here:
It lists the kinds of evidence the DA has in his possession. Not good for DSK.
