US Republicans eyeing Texas governor for president

NEW ORLEANS — Four years after George W. Bush left the White House, some US Republicans are pinning their hopes on his successor as Texas governor to triumph over President Barack Obama in the 2012 election.

Governor Rick Perry, who has openly flirted with running and said he will decide soon whether to throw his hat in the ring, was due Saturday to address delegates to an influential Republican Party gathering in this party city.

Perry isn't on the Southern Republican Leadership Conference straw poll ballot, but some of the delegates here say they like what they have seen so far from the nation's longest-serving governor.

"I'm hoping that Rick Perry makes a bid," said Regina Wilson, a Louisiana resident. "He can be strong when he needs to be strong, I think he has good thoughts, and I think he has the strength we need."

Former Republican vice presidential candidate and archconservative "Tea Party" movement darling Sarah Palin grins from a button on O. P. Ditch's shirt, but the 22-year US Air Force veteran says he likes what he sees in Perry.

"I want to hear what he has to say, and see if he jumps in," said Ditch, 73, adding "I think recently he's done a real good job with the state of Texas."

"I was enthused about him, about the potential for him jumping in because I know he's a good friend of the governor's (Palin), so if she thinks he's a good guy, I think he's a good guy," said Ditch. "If she doesn't run."

Then, why did Sarah Palin campaign for him?

Ask her. Then ask her why she ran with another RINO, McCain.

.

Perry wants passage of a measure requiring every person arrested to be run through the federal immigration databases as part of the Secure Communities program. He also wants to provide the state Department of Public Safety with the authority to make sure someone is in the U.S. legally before issuing a driver’s license.
These measures, along with a ban on sanctuary cities, would “provide a clear message that Texas will not turn a blind eye to those breaking our laws,” Perry said in a statement.
“Texas owes it to the brave law enforcement officials, who put their lives on the line every day to protect our families and communities, to give them the discretion they need to adequately do their jobs,” Perry said.

.Gov. Perry has made numerous requests of the federal govt. to enforce the border in Texas including handing Pre. Obama a letter in person when he landed in Dallas last year.
. Perry signed into law photo id required before voting.

WHAT HAS YOUR GOVERNOR DONE ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION???

HOW do you account for this:

. Sarah Palin threw her endorsement to Rick Perry for governor- and so did Nugent.
Sarah just restated the other day she likes Perry

.Rush said that Perry is his dream candidate.

How many sensible anti-islam politicians are there in the world? Very very verrryy few. Palin will go to bat for them, it’s all about $$$$. They pay, they get their way.

It’s a lost cause, I’m in Plano and there’s burkas all over the place now. Nobody cares to save us from this, nobody. Not Perry, not Palin, not anyone.

This is my favorite. This will light their fires! They'll forget Sarah Palin in a flash and attack Perry.

Inauguration concert controversy

Perry invited his friend, rock musician Ted Nugent, to perform at a black-tie gala hours after Perry's second inauguration ceremony on January 16, 2007. Nugent appeared onstage during the inaugural ball wearing a cutoff T-shirt emblazoned with the Confederate flag and shouting derogatory remarks about non-English speakers, according to press reports. The NAACP condemned Nugent's wearing the Confederate flag.

Perry is no conservative.

Then, why did Sarah Palin campaign for him?

Uh, didn't she hook up with the McCain campaign?

I don't think McCain is a conservative by any definition.

HOW do you account for this:

Limbaugh has said several times in the past few days that he does not endorse anyone. As far as Palin goes she backed a RINO in Perry and did the same running with McCain.

If Limbaugh and Palin endorsed Perry it would not matter to me. He is what he is. A RINO. If he was a conservative you would not have all the Texans that have been around here on FR saying otherwise.

Occasionally, and only occasionally, out of the goodness of her American heart, Sarah makes a mistake.

I know... I am so sick of these party groupies...

They now want to run someone from a state that is totally over run with illegals, Muslims etc, the same guy who was all for some Trans-Texas Corridor, using eminent domain for a mile-wide superhighway from Mexico straight up into Texas and then turn it over to a Spanish company...

A super highway from Mexico straight up through Texas??

Yeah, lets go with that guy!

Gezzzz.

Cain and West have spoken out against Islam.
Perry could go with one of them as VP

Well, I’m glad someone has. It’s still rare and whoever wins won’t be that way.
