US Republicans eyeing Texas governor for president

NEW ORLEANS — Four years after George W. Bush left the White House, some US Republicans are pinning their hopes on his successor as Texas governor to triumph over President Barack Obama in the 2012 election.

Governor Rick Perry, who has openly flirted with running and said he will decide soon whether to throw his hat in the ring, was due Saturday to address delegates to an influential Republican Party gathering in this party city.

Perry isn't on the Southern Republican Leadership Conference straw poll ballot, but some of the delegates here say they like what they have seen so far from the nation's longest-serving governor.

"I'm hoping that Rick Perry makes a bid," said Regina Wilson, a Louisiana resident. "He can be strong when he needs to be strong, I think he has good thoughts, and I think he has the strength we need."

Former Republican vice presidential candidate and archconservative "Tea Party" movement darling Sarah Palin grins from a button on O. P. Ditch's shirt, but the 22-year US Air Force veteran says he likes what he sees in Perry.

"I want to hear what he has to say, and see if he jumps in," said Ditch, 73, adding "I think recently he's done a real good job with the state of Texas."

"I was enthused about him, about the potential for him jumping in because I know he's a good friend of the governor's (Palin), so if she thinks he's a good guy, I think he's a good guy," said Ditch. "If she doesn't run."

Limbaugh did not endorse Perry nor say he was his dream candidate.

RUSH: Now, Rick Perry used to be soft on immigration, now he’s not

Good grief...

How in hell could *anyone*, outside of an open borders leftist, who is capable of critical thought, given our state of affairs, be soft on immigration?

How in tarnation is that even possible????

Why do you keep posting lies about Guardasil....it was never meant or proposed to be compulsory....just available. Maybe a good dose of cervical cancer in your family would bring you to your senses....nahh not you. ANYWAY QUIT LYING

.....Perry himself attempted to force Guardasil on Texans?
Yes. I know this upsets you.

Cervical cancer upsets a lot of women (and their families) though.

NOT so.

There was no attempt to force the vaccine on anyone.
You could always opt out.

Perry has said the cervical cancer vaccine is no different than the one that protects children against polio.
“If there are diseases in our society that are going to cost us large amounts of money, it just makes good economic sense, not to mention the health and well being of these individuals to have those vaccines available,” he said.

Texas allows parents to opt out of inoculations by filing an affidavit stating that he or she objected to the vaccine for religious or philosophical reasons.

He said just that. Look it up:

He said that in regard to "getting in the race" and said he was not endorsing Perry. Thanks for the link, I did not think Limbaugh was that stupid and it turns out he is not. But, if he had said that Perry was his dream candidate I'd have to wonder about Limbaugh. He needs to note Perry's actions. Not his empty words or BS written in a book he did not write.

Soft on immigration?

Perry adds immigration issues to lawmaker session
Perry wants passage of a measure requiring every person arrested to be run through the federal immigration databases as part of the Secure Communities program. He also wants to provide the state Department of Public Safety with the authority to make sure someone is in the U.S. legally before issuing a driver’s license.
These measures, along with a ban on sanctuary cities, would “provide a clear message that Texas will not turn a blind eye to those breaking our laws,” Perry said in a statement.
“Texas owes it to the brave law enforcement officials, who put their lives on the line every day to protect our families and communities, to give them the discretion they need to adequately do their jobs,” Perry said.

.Gov. Perry has made numerous requests of the federal govt. to enforce the border in Texas including handing Pre. Obama a letter in person when he landed in Dallas last year.

.Signed into law; photo id before voting.

WHAT HAS YOUR/OTHER GOVERNORS DONE??

But his demeanor would make a strong contrast to Obama.

Yep! His 'demeanor' and just about everyyhing else about Perry would contrast with Obama.

If Perry won the Presidency, the New England states and the left coast would succeed from the Union! Did I just say that? He! He! Lets elect him!!

http://governor.state.tx.us/news/executive-order/3455/

This is not something a conservative would do. This was not an opt-in program.

Nor would they push the TTC, instate tuition for illegals, allow for santuary cities or leave the border wide open.

Perry has been making noise as if he cares about illegals and the border now but as others have pointed out Perry has been Gov. for YEARS. And did nothing.

Yes, to "enter the race". Limbaugh does not endorse Perry then says Perry is a conservative. He is wrong about the latter.

Why do Palin, Rush and Nugent (just to name a few top Conservative icons) say they like him and call him
Conservative then?

We need a man with cross-over appeal to beat the monster in the White House- something that many such as Palin and Cain
(no matter how we love them) do not have.

My point is Perry HAS done a lot against illegals- more than most (if not all) the other governors.
What have they done?

You need to catch up on the news.....the sanctuary cities bill has passed in the special session....and Perry will sign it. Again you have been exposed...you really need to do your homework....but above all find an issue that you don’t have to lie about.....

My point is Perry HAS done a lot against illegals

2 Questions:

1. Then why is Texas over run with illegal aliens?

2. Why are Texas hospitals like Parkland Dallas, home to nearly 1000 anchor babies per month?
