Tim Pawlenty's first Iowa spot: 'If I can do it in Minnesota ...'
6/22/11
Alexander Burns
Tim Pawlenty is taking the next major step today in his run for president, going on the air in Iowa with a wave of cable ads touting his record as governor of Minnesota. Pawlentys commercials define the choice facing Republican primary voters this way: A lot of candidates will come to Iowa and say the same things. The question is, have they done it?
Pawlentys spot answers the question by casting him as a solid conservative governor who reduced spending in real terms and took on the government unions and won. While the ad doesnt directly hit any of his opponents Democrat or Republican it says Pawlenty passed health care reform the right way no mandates, no takeovers. Continue Reading
The decision to go on Iowa TV is a big move for Pawlenty, who could get a boost of momentum nationally if his numbers begin to move in the first-in-the-nation caucus state. A Pawlenty official confirmed the campaign is up in the Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Omaha, Sioux City, Rochester and Ottumwa markets, and Ben had more details on the buy.

Don’t forget that we have Senator Frankin thanks to TPaw!

"I was a mediocre governor. I want to be a mediocre president."?
After all, mediocre is a huge step forward when we have the worst president since James Buchanan.
I hope that Pawlenty wins the Iowa caucus. He has a good record as Governor and will put the upper Midwest in play.
I’m favorably disposed toward Pawlenty, but can’t understand why he’s not getting any traction at all. It’s the two ‘P’s’ 24/7.
Maybe if he wins the Iowa Caucus, it will attract more media and voter attention.
I don’t see it posted here in FR yet but drudge has poll results in Iowa showing Pawlenty getting only 6%.
If true he should be the next to bail.
And good riddance.

As Gov. of MN, he did, in fact, hold the line on spending - but did nothing to actually reduce spending. Point in fact, he renamed the hated Department of Children, Families and Learning back to its original title of Department of Education to great cheers and fanfare early in his administration - but did nothing to reform or reduce the agency that oversees half of the MN budget. Another indicator is has “position” on global warming. Not really sure and never talked about until consensus and our media began to push for government measures, then, voila!, he “believed in global warming” and felt we needed to do something about it - what would that be? Now, of course, he's on the national stage and in the eye of conservatives again (who are more important than ever) and he has come to a revelation and rethought his GW “position” - whodathunkit?
Point is, he ain't the man we need. If you're a pragmatist and want somebody better than what we have, why, he'll do I suppose. The down side is that you'll continue to get a down side. That is, he may (big word)) hold a line on spending, but you'll still be facing astronomical debt and ongoing spending levels without draconian revisions in our government and social systems that are now thoroughly addicted to pissing money. The change we need is only going to come through somebody willing to exercise real power and surgically remove the cancers on our body politic that are consuming our lives and liberties.
Timmy ain't that man. I thought he was as a state delegate long ago but I know better now. The best man from MN for conservative change wears a skirt . . .
Thank You.
Contrary to Popular opinion around here Tim has a very good chance of being the next President...and that’s a good thing.
No. he does not. pulling 6% in Iowa is a indication of that. I won’t even vote for him in the Minnesota caucus.
If the choice was between Pawlenty and Bachmann, I would have to chose Bachmann. T-Paw simply does not have a spine.
Today is June 28 2011. That means any poll you see is pretty much meaningless. Talk to me in (Say) November then they’ll start to mean something.
By then he will be a faint zero ;)
