Ten Brands That Will Disappear in 2012 [No more Kellogg's Corn Pops? NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!]

Kellogg's Corn Pops

The cereal business is not what is used to be, at least for products that are not considered "healthy." Among those is Kellogg's Corn Pops ready-to-eat cereal. Sales of the brand dropped 18% over the year that ended in April, down to $74 million. That puts it well behind brands like Cheerios and Frosted Flakes, each which have sales of over $200 million a year. Private label sales have also hurt sales of branded cereals. Revenues in this category were $637 million over the same April-end period. There is also profit margin pressure on Corn Pops because of the sharp increase in corn prices. Kellogg's describes the product as being "crispy, glazed, crunchy, sweet." Corn Pops also contain mono- and diglycerides, used to bind saturated fat, and BHT for freshness, which is also used in embalming fluid. None of these are likely to be what mothers want to serve their children in an age in which a healthy breakfast is more likely to be egg whites and a bowl of fresh fruit.

10. Nokia

What if Apple buys Nokia? They are cash flush and Nokia's phone patents would be a big win for Apple.

Absolutely. And waiting until the cereal was gone before attacking the milk taught the disciplines of patience and delayed gratification. No surprise we're so wonderful. :)

So is water and I don't exactly see people clinging in fear from it.

It is the real reason I bought a five shot .22 magnum derringer when I got the chance. When I was almost a teen, my cousin and I made .22 short zip guns in the summer, to go frog hunting with. Out grew out Daisy BB guns. To this day I have an itching to made a single shot 20 gage zipgun.

I’m so old that when I was in school my older brother who was in rifle club would bring his rifle and a box of fifty rounds on the school bus!

They are just a name, anyway; the original A&W was bought out by KFC, and now they have KFC and A&W in the same location in thousands of places.

That's the way it is here. Nothing like the A&W when I was a kid-a real drive-in with Papa Burgers, Mama Burgers and Baby Burgers. And the only place you could get real A&W root beer.

Also, learning the nuance of each cereal and the rate at which it sweetened milk.

I remember reading some years ago that the cereal aisle was the most profitable in supermarkets. I just can’t believe what a box of cereal costs today and am not willing to pay it. So we have eggs/waffles/pancakes/oatmeal/grits/french toast instead. MUCH cheaper

How about the mouth lacerating ‘Captain Crunch’? Have you got the scars to prove your devotion to Captain Crunch?

Captain Crunch is most famous for a whistle they included in the box as a promotion back in the sixties. Its perfect pitch did a number on the world's long distance telephone system (this was before the telcos figured out that in-band signaling was not a good idea).

The cereal was formulated by Arthur D. Little, a Boston consulting company. Aunt Pam's cereal.

Wow - never heard the whistle angle before - I thought it was bad enough they made a cereal that made me bleed from the mouth...

The lacerations simply made it easier for you to absorb the nutrients into your bloodstream. :-)

Finally, an explanation I could have wrapped my bleeding gums around! Slightly strange that I was ‘onboard’ with this ‘nutrient delivery system’ - it didn’t stop me from eating it! :0

I always liked Sugar Smacks. Sugar and violence--what could be better? This clown is a little creepy though--in a John Wayne Gacy kinda way.

Sugar Bear was on Post Sugar Pops. He sounded like Bing Crosby (you probably don’t know who he is, though - too young!)

Remember the chocolate cigarettes? Or the bubble gum cigars? You could blow on the candy cigarettes wrapped in paper and fine sugar would blow off to resemble smoke! The libs would be tearing their hair out if they had them today!
