A tornado is currently tearing through Louisville, Kentucky. Early reports indicate that Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby, has suffered damage.
Duck and cover eastern Jefferson County and Oldham County.
Yeah, my daughter just called to say she and the dog were in the bathroom waiting.
It’s past her now, but they are saying another possibility is coming in from the west shortly.
Prayers up for all those affected.!
There are reports now of multiple touchdowns on the University of Louisville campus. I have a coworker who is up there taking a summer class. I hope and pray that Kelli is okay.

Listing to the WHAS-11 live feed (I have family in Louisville) ... earlier reports that Mark’s Feed Store on Shelbyville Rd. got hit were inaccurate. They called into WHAS to say that they’re ok, and open for business.

Too bad...the tornado missed the Gay Pride Festival by a couple of days.

It was a strange situation. The warning was issued at first only because police in a southern Indiana county spotted it. Some of the cells could not even be categorized as thunderstorms as there was no thunder or lightning indicated from them for much of the time. The NWS actually allowed the tornado warning to expire for several minutes even though multiple reports of touchdowns and funnel clouds were continuing because there was not a strong radar signature apparently and the fact it wasn’t a thunderstorm. Most of the news stations stayed on saying there was still likely a tornado even though there was not an official NWS warning given the numerous reports coming in from people seeing touchdowns and funnel clouds - including confirmations from fire departments and airport officials who reported spotting funnel clouds. Finally the NWS decided to reinstate a warning.
So far it looks like Louisville got off easy. There are no reports of injuries and the property damage is fairly light. There were five barns at Churchill Downs that were damaged, but no humans or horses were injured. Races at the track have been cancelled for Thursday.

It is amazing that no horses were killed or injured, as they were in the terrble tornado that hit the horse farm near Raleigh NC last spring... what a horror that was
