SNIPPET: "CHARLOTTE, N.C.— The FBI is asking for the public's help in identifying a man who was seen near a restricted area along the light rail near uptown Charlotte.

A worker monitoring security cameras said the man was spotted in the area in late April, according to investigators. The man was clearly in an area he wasn't supposed to be in and was acting suspiciously, the FBI said."

FBI Seeks Public Assistance in Identifying Suspicious Man

CHARLOTTE, NC—The Charlotte Division of the FBI and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are asking the public to help identify a man who was in a restricted area along the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) LYNX Blue Line in April. He was observed acting in a suspicious manner on a surveillance camera, and the incident was reported to the FBI. Agents and Task Force Officers are now asking if anyone may know this individual.

“The safety and security procedures that we have established along the light rail line assisted in detecting the individual in an area that is off limits to the public. We immediately notified our partners at the FBI and CMPD,” said Bryan Leaird, CATS’ General Manager of Safety and Security. “The combined efforts of CATS and our local and federal law enforcement agencies help keep the transit system safe for our customers, which is our top priority.”

“We do not want to create a sense of alarm releasing these surveillance photos. Our job as law enforcement is to track down suspicious activity. Recent events have created an atmosphere of heightened awareness, and that type of vigilance is a good thing,” said Chris Briese, the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Charlotte Division. “We hope someone in the community has information that can help us.”

Anyone who has information that may help the FBI identify the man pictured in the surveillance image is asked to call the Charlotte Division at 704-377-9200.

I’m thinking (hoping really) that they’ve been investigating it and hit a brick wall so now they’re asking for the public’s help......hopefully that’s all.

I’m a housewife, so I can’t speak for any agency. In my personal opinion, all leads are usually exhausted before these type of posters are posted about.

Here is a separate, unrelated case. Notice the dates.

Obviously not, if you waited 2 months to mention it.

The first thing they should check before going to the public with these stories: go to geocaching.com, see if there are any in the area, then check to see if a visit was logged at the time the person was present. Geocachers would act strange, as they don’t want to give away the location to people who don’t play the game.

Thank you Kearnyirish2.
I’ve never heard of geocaching before your post.

How many players put geocaches in hazardous areas, however?

You’re welcome; it’s a lot of fun, and a good way to get the kids outside while learning about some nearby places you might not have known about. I’ve seen a trend where the containers (sometimes waterproof ammunition boxes) are marked with all kinds of notices on the outside so as not to be mistaken for “suspicious packages”. In theory they’re not supposed to be hidden anywhere you’d have to trespass to get them.

They usually don’t (and shouldn’t), but I recently looked at one in Pennsylvania that you literally have to rapelle (sp?) to. The person hiding it might not even think there was anything unusual about it.

Let’s just see if Detective kearnyirish2 was right...

: )

The FBI should go after the real criminals standing right in front of them.

Get off your arses and do something about the most obvious issue facing America, and if they or anyone cannot figure that out then they have truly become a charity foundation and need civilians help.

Why would it create alarm? Looks Finnish to me.
