The Guardian will make job cuts over the next two years in a bid to save £25m by 2016 and continue its move towards a ‘digital first’ news strategy.

The newspaper’s editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger has said that a ‘significant’ number of jobs will be shed across the group which currently employs around 1,500 members of staff, including 630 journalists.

Talking to BBC Radio 4’s The Media Show, Rusbridger admitted to cut its staff numbers over the next two years while the company also aims to boost its digital revenue to £91m by 2016.

Andrew Miller, chief executive for the Guardian Media Group has said that the editorial budget for The Guardian, The Observer and guardian.co.uk would remain unchanged until 2012.

Guardian execs have learned. The key word is “significant” jobs cuts..instead of bleeding a few jobs every year or so..take a big axe..one time..clean it out..

FT. MYERS: In March, Lee County gave $105,000 to the Gannett Corporation - owner of the News-Press. The money was an incentive to create 35 new jobs. But Tuesday the paper fired 14 people.

FORT MYERS: Southwest Florida’s largest newspaper is forcing its employees to take mandatory furloughs to save the company money. So why have taxpayers given more than $100,000 to Gannett, owner of the News-Press, to create more jobs if it can’t afford to pay its current employees their full salaries?

NBC2 Investigator Andy Pierrotti digs for answers as he tracks your tax dollars.

While News-Press employees took a pay cut through furloughs, Lee County awarded Gannett - owner of the paper - $105,000 to create new jobs.

The good news is that this will have no impact on the quality of the paper’s reporting.

the most anti-American rag in the UK.

How many editors of a newspaper have you heard try to physically “arrest” Dick Cheney? That’s the idiots running that ship.
