Irk is not the word...Merck is....
I agree with earlier posts that “opting out” rather than “opting in” is BS....

Measles and pertussis vaccines are tried and true...Gardisal is NOT ...I wouldn’t even have my kids get the varicella vaccine...”take me to the Supreme Court” I said...( they got it the natural way, thank God)

I’m a labor and delivery nurse and after vaccinating THOUSANDS of newborns in the 90’s with Hep B, the manufacturers came out in early 2000’s and said
“ whoops, we have the wrong stuff in there...sorry” and we stopped for a while...
I’ve had enough of “whoops” with regard to vaccines....

Are you ok then with little kids going to school without their shots for measles, whooping cough, etc. Public health requires as close to 100% compliance as possible. Are those who are against Gardasil against it only because “it’s sex and that’s icky.” If someone is infected with HPV, they will, not might, will, pass it on. HPV causes 80% of all cervical, vaginal, and penile cancer. There are no established problems with Gardasil. It is as safe and as effective as any other vaccine. That’s how we got rid of smallpox, polio, etc.

"Who is Rick and why should I care about him?"

The governor of state with the best job creation in the nation.

Yes he is, but don't make the mistake of ascribing all of that job creation to him. The office of Texas Governor is weak, so they can't meddle in the affairs of business like governors of other states can.

The booming Texas economy is a political windfall for Perry. He didn't create it, but he sure is going to do everything he can to capitalize on it.

Let’s not simply tell half the story with that picture. After shaking Obama’s hand, Perry tried to hand him a letter on increasing border security (so that he would know that Obama directly got it). Obama wouldn’t take it:

The next time, Perry refused to greet him.

Has NOT been out long enough for you to say that Wallop. no way, no how...
I’m not against it because of “icky” connotations...I’m against anyone telling me I have to sign something to “opt out” of a damn un-tested ( I want DECADES ) money-making vaccine...see my earlier post about the “safe and effective” Hep B vaccine from the ‘90’s....BS...BS...BS

No shortcomings is one thing, short-sheeting is another.

"Short-sheeting"? What does that mean?

If Sarah doesn’t run, I might go all in for Perry. He can kick the snot out of Obama in the general. :)

I’m not sure I can go all in for Perry at least not in the primary. I agree he probably can defeat Obama but I’m still waiting to see what the field will look like. It appears we may have some late entries witness Perry, Palin and possibly someone really not on the radar at this time. I’m not enthused about anyone that has their name in the pot as of yet. Some I could easily vote but still hoping for more entries.

“If Palin runs third party, she would guarantee Obama’s reelection.”

I’m not so sure... it would be her versus two yech candidates.

Obie wins no more than 30ish percent.
RINOmney (or other Obie-lite candidate) wins 33ish percent
Sarah takes the conservative vote and the tea party vote and the independents and could win.

Now, I don’t know that this is what is planned, but after thinking about why she is
doing what she is doing - creating infrastructure, social (direct) contacts, and independent
fund-raising + Going Rogue book... ya gotta wonder.

If Perry runs, I don’t think Sarah will because he would take too much vote to make
a third party win possible.

Just thinking out loud.

I have a 15-year-old daughter. This mandate would have directly affected her. I was very upset about this at the time, but when it comes down to it, Perry had to give in to his conservative base. We didn't want this. If, as POTUS, he attempts something via Executive Order with which we disagree, Perry will listen to reason.

As for the vaccine ... my daughter's pediatrician is a proponent of it. He's been prodding me to vaccinate my daughter for two years. I teach abstinence, so I've been resistant. At the pediatrician's suggestion, I extensively researched the side effects of the vaccine. I came to the conclusion that it is not dangerous as the opponents of it have been saying. The 44 deaths associated with it cannot be conclusively tied to the vaccine. The majority of the patients had existing risk factors. And any adverse conditions that occur within a certain time period after receiving the vaccine must be reported as side effects whether or not those conditions are obviously related. So if a child gets a headache, snotty nose, and a fever within that time period, it's reported as a side effect even if it's simply the flu. Severe menstrual cramps that month - side effect.

Ultimately, I decided to vaccinate after looking at the statistics on the specific cancers caused by HPV. My daughter is very conservative-minded in her decisions, but if she finds herself in a compromising situation despite having been informed of the consequences, I want her to be protected just in case. (Bristol Palin had sex as an unwed teenager even though she was raised by ultra-conservative parents.)

FWIW

I am not thrilled with Perry, but come on.

People do change. 1988 is a lifetime ago at this point.

There are some things about him I do not like, but he’s okay compared to many of the other candidates. Not somebody to support in the primary though...many better candidates than him who are good conservatives all the way around.

If, as POTUS, he attempts something via Executive Order with which we disagree, Perry will listen to reason.
___________________________________________________________

Will he?

“Roughly 60 state lawmakers called on Perry to rescind the order. He refused. Just six weeks after Perry put pen to paper, the Texas House rebuked him on March 14, 2007, passing HB 1098, overturning his executive order by a vote of 119-21. The Senate followed suit the following month by a vote of 30-1.

Realizing both chambers had large enough majorities to override a veto, Perry opted to let the bill become law without his signature. On May 8, the day the law went into effect, Perry held a press conference surrounded by women touched by cervical cancer. He bemoaned the tenor of a debate that he asserted had been “hijacked by politics and posturing,” and blamed future cervical cancer deaths on those who opposed his mandate — many of whom were fellow Republicans.

In a grand flourish, Perry thanked the small minority of legislators who sided with him: “They will never have to think twice about whether they did the right thing. No lost lives will occupy the confines of their conscience, sacrificed on the altar of political expediency.”

So a President Perry would be the result of all the hard work put in by the Tea Party??

Hard to get excited about that.

Sarah Palin or bust!!!

I tell you this though, if I had to choose between Perry or Bachmann, no contest, would never ever vote for Bachmann

“Do you think he’s “too Texian”? Or, do you think he has the right package for the big show?”

Is there such a thing as “too Texan”? NO!

Plus Perry has a raw, sexual energy about him, so he has the right package for sure.

What do you want him to do....stab the president in the heart shouting death to tyrants and run back to his limo?

You show respect for the president regardless of what you think about him if you are the governor when he visits.

My step-dad is a doc and he claims that Perry was advised by many doctors that the vaccine should be required to protect young girls whose parents think “my daughter will not have sex” because the risk of HPV is so great. I think the doctors lobbied Perry to push the vaccine and that he believed he was doing the right thing. And as you pointed out, women affected by cervical cancer also had his ear.

Perry can be made to listen to reason, IMO. Some will disagree with me.

Perry Snubs Obama, Wants More Than a Handshake

http://austinist.com/2011/05/12/perry_snubs_obama_wants_more_than_a.php

“President Obama extended an offer to meet Gov. Rick Perry this week when he visited Texas, but Perry turned him down.

Obama invited Perry to meet with him at the airport in El Paso before flying to Austin on Tuesday, but Perry declined. According to Perry’s spokesperson, the governor would prefer to have a substantial meeting with the president, “not just shake his hand in a receiving line on a tarmac.”

The two men have rendezvoused on a Texan tarmac before. Last August, Perry presented a letter to Obama at the airport, which requested additional National Guard troops along the Texas-Mexico border. Perry later used footage of the meeting in campaign materials proving he “confronted” the president on the issue.”

Any Democrat can count on a minimum 40+ percent of the vote. Any Republican can count on about the same without a third party run by someone like Palin. Depending on the strength of the third party candidate, he or she could cut pretty deeply into the R 40-something percent. Independents will also be split amongst the candidates. Math is simple. Even under the absolute best of circumstances, the Right, in total, can hope to get maybe 52% of all votes cast. Split that between two name candidates, and Obama wins in a cakewalk.
