If I remember correctly, it was an AR (maybe AK) pistol variant chambered in 7.62 x 39 that caused the old Norinco steel core ammo ban.

Correct, similar in configuration to the Romanian *Draco* AK shorty pistols that are both very popular an d on my own personal want list.

BTW, there was a rumble at the SHOT show where the new even shorter [8-inch barrel/ 18 inches overall] Draco was introduced, that there's soon to be a version in the 5,45 Soviet AK74 cartridge. Which means that the inexpensive supplies of the military steel-cored 5.45mm Soviet ammo now on the market will dry up very quickly, and further importation of the Russian and Bulgarian military 5.45 will be halted.

If you have a 5.45 AK-semi and like the (good stuff* ammo, get what you can NOW.

I saw one of those .308 HK91 based pistols at the last funshow. I would think those and that 7.62 x 39 Draco would kind of be a handful to fire.

A 5.45 X 39 or 5.56 AK pistol with the proper brake really has my interest.

I would also like to see a true pistol like the Glock 18 or select fire Beretta 92 chambered in the 5.7 with a drum type magazine. I’ve seen them making those drum pistol mags for a few new types of pistols now. I’ve seen pics of old ones made for the Luger and 1911.
