I ought to feel bad about that. Realistically, it's probably coincidence.
“SCANCER”
Hey, that might play... really!
There was an article here about Coulter’s new book where she makes the case that the liberals have a “mob” mentality. They try to control simple people by teaching them phrases that are emotional but don’t make much sense. Think of “Hey,hey ho,ho Western Civilization’s got to go” or “No justice, no peace.”
The mob/crowd/simple people in large numbers can be manipulated with the right imagery, with a catchy phrase, with something they can chant. The general, non-thinking public could be turned with a few simple words that can lodge in their brains.
“SCANCER” might just have the same effect. That is a VERY good idea.
There is a chance it isn’t a coincidence. An x-ray machine that is uncalibrated can be give doses that are much higher than the machine is supposed to give off. They would have to test the machines at that location and see if any scanners are malfunctioning. It will likely have to land in court where test results can be ordered by a judge.
It all comes down to what is or isn't "reasonable." In other words, the 4th amendment is pretty much a blank slate. The question inevitably ends up in court. The SCOTUS has a variety of tests established over the years, having to do with the "expectation of privacy." It becomes a circular argument, but that's where we are. In short, the amendment is rather useless as long as it contains the word "unreasonable."
Uh... because under the Obama administration the US is NO LONGER A DEMOCRACY, and the people have no rights.
Next silly question.
Dang, that’s good and a useful word. Could spawn a new industry for “frequent fly-wear”.
EVERYONE has the right to refuse this scan.
Better a pat down than terminal cancer.
Pregnant women should NOT go through this scanner.
Better yet, we should follow Israel’s example and profile behavior, using professionals.
It finally happened ...
I was flying out of SeaTac, and the goons directed me to the porno-scanner.
I quietly informed the goon: "I opt out".
Goon starts to read me a bunch of twaddle.
I interrupt, again quietly: "I choose to opt out".
Head goon calls for "Male assist".
Different goon, middle aged male shows up, carries my bag over to a table, indicates that I should accompany him. Table is in public view (the way I want it).
I get the grope, by kit gets the swab. Goon appears to be as thrilled about the whole business as I am.
I'm disgusted.
But I'm not going to be leered at by some pervert in a hidden booth.
If you do the calculations based on resolution, detector sensitivity etc... The dose is closer to 1/50 to 1/20 th of a chest x-ray. Further the “effective” dose used by TSA/DHS/MFG is a measure of internal organ cancer risk not applicable to backscatter. Your skin, breast, testicles[2] absorb 85% of the less penetrating[1] backscatter x-rays making the “effective” dose appear so small. New powerful(100x) full “total recall” transmission x-ray tunnel scanners[3] are being deployed in jails and airports.
Hope this helps

IIRC the cancer cluster email is about a year old; it wasn’t clear from what was in the FOIA stuff if these were backscatter operators or luggage scanners, or what-? I did read (you too maybe) that BOS was one of the first places to get backscatters.
If this is backscatter related, then it means in another year or two this may be replicated a lot more places, which is a start towards getting rid of these almost-certainly medically dangerous machines.
