UCSF researchers have some hard questions for White House science advisor John Holdren. An interesting new round in the airport scanner wars: Why won't TSA make its scanners available for independent scientific assessment - the same kind of assessment required for medical imaging machines?
That's the question asked of White House science advisor John Holdren by five researchers at UC San Francisco and one at Arizona State University in a letter titled "There is Still no Rigorous Hard Data for the Safety of X-Ray Airport Passenger Scanners." [link at url]...

It is a lengthy read, but well worth the time. But what could this right-wing rag reveal? Sarc. Can’t chalk it off as being that... as some liberals like to try to do.
BTW, union reps at Boston’s Logan airport have discovered a cluster of cancer cases among TSA workers (scanner operators).
What does our Constitution mean at this point?
“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”
I am tempted, if I have to go through one, to scream and fall wiggling on the floor.
You'd probably end up at some rendition site.

“What probable cause do they have to search me?”
None. But the Gestapo needs no probable cause.
Imposed by the government, they are another one of these rouge agencies that just does what it wants, completely inconsiderate of what the airline or their customers and “the people” want, no real measures of success or failure, no bottom line nor concept of customer and that is all rapped up in a typical government bureaucracy that is inefficient, non-inovative........
Like the make belief government jobs in parts of Europe these people are “doing something” and are at least somewhat gainfully employed, albeit instead of defeating terrorism (the sales pitch) they simply catch the pot head with his stash for a small price of 8.1 billion per year.
There are many lefty big wigs like MJ that don’t like the TSA scanners and are now openly voicing their disapproval and opposition to the TSA scanners.
Perhaps the tide is turning...opposition to the scanners coming from the left, the right, from libertarians and so on.
Really?
Mother Jones and UCSF?
Can’t be good for the TSA if they are both taking aim.
FU Chertoff!
Ironically it may be the TSA unions that put the kibosh on unmonitored scanners and grope-happy policies.
Might all of this create a new word: TSA scanner operators got SCANCER from the scanners?
I hear it causes global warming!
At other times it might be appropriate to brush this off, but this is not the time.
There are Federally mandated monthly radiation exposure rates for medical personnel who are required to wear exposure badges. How many scans can an individual be put through if they are a frequent flyer? Should they wear exposure badges also?
