Skip to comments.Get-to-work Obama suddenly uninterested in work. Turns down invitation to discuss debt limit.

Old and busted: Leading leaders and the leadership they display by meeting with leaders. New hotness: The worthlessness of leaders meeting leaders. Yesterday, Barack Obama insisted that leadership meant meeting with opponents and getting serious about finding compromise and making a deal:
And Ive got to say, Im very amused when I start hearing comments about, well, the President needs to show more leadership on this. Let me tell you something. Right after we finished dealing with the government shutdown, averting a government shutdown, I called the leaders here together. I said weve got to get done — get this done. I put Vice President Biden in charge of a process — that, by the way, has made real progress — but these guys have met, worked through all of these issues. I met with every single caucus for an hour to an hour and a half each — Republican senators, Democratic senators; Republican House, Democratic House. Ive met with the leaders multiple times. At a certain point, they need to do their job.
And so, this thing, which is just not on the level, where we have meetings and discussions, and were working through process, and when they decide theyre not happy with the fact that at some point youve got to make a choice, they just all step back and say, well, you know, the President needs to get this done — they need to do their job.
Now is the time to go ahead and make the tough choices. Thats why theyre called leaders. And Ive already shown that Im willing to make some decisions that are very tough and will give my base of voters further reason to give me a hard time. But its got to be done.
And so theres no point in procrastinating. Theres no point in putting it off. Weve got to get this done. And if by the end of this week, we have not seen substantial progress, then I think members of Congress need to understand we are going to start having to cancel things and stay here until we get it done.
So what is Obama’s idea of leadership? Declaring himself uninterested in such mundane matters as budget negotiations:
The White House effectively turned down an invitation by Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell for President Barack Obama to visit his members on Capitol Hill on Thursday to discuss raising the debt limit.
Jay Carney told the media earlier today that McConnell’s invitation was “not a conversation worth having.” Sounds a lot like Obama’s own press conference. It also highlights a particularly Democratic approach to bipartisanship, which is usually defined as Republicans agreeing to Democratic demands, which is more or less how Obama defined the supposedly bipartisan process that produced ObamaCare and Porkulus, both of which were written by Democrats without Republican input.
Obama tried painting himself as the “adult in the room” yesterday, according to sources at the White House. Don’t you have to actually be in the room to qualify as such?
Being in the room depends on who’s doing the reporting.
“Obama tried painting himself as the adult in the room yesterday, according to sources at the White House. Dont you have to actually be in the room to qualify as such?”
Well, remember, the guy has a god like ego, guess he figures he is omnipresent too.
Quick Question: How is Obama like God? Neither has a verified birth certificate.
I guess he must have scheduled a round of golf that interferes.
See Dick Run.
Mark Halperin, is that you?
Its CRIMINAL what they've allowed to go unreported.
Its CRIMINAL what they've allowed to go unreported.
O-hole being himself.
“I am TOO a leader, you dumbheads.”
Come on, give the man a break. We’re two days away from a long weekend. That’s got to be close enough to cut out a little early and catch a few rounds of golf. Look how hard he worked. He held four whole meetings that each lasted between an hour and 90 minutes. Why, that’s almost a full day’s work. The guy must be exhausted.
Obama is not going to make ANY budget proposal, at all.
If he made one he’d have to defend it. He knows any proposal he’d like to defend can’t get passed by Congress.
If he made one himself he knows he cannot produce one that will satisfy his base and get passed by Congress as well.
To make a budget proposal to get passed by Congress Obama has to make difficult choices, choices he is not going to make himself. So, he’s not going to make those choices, on his own.
He may in the final analysis have to approve them, to get something passed to his desk from Congress.
What he’s waiting for is a proposal he hates, a proposal he was not part of, a proposal that is not his, but one that he must sign to avoid default; so that as soon as he signs it he can start campaigning against it.
He’s not leader. He’s a stand-in for an ideological agenda.
The loon avoids conversations with those smarter than he.
Which is why he only wants to talk to journalists and dim-bulb-crat congresscritters.
Obama is a spoiled brat child that has never been told “no” and pitches a tantrum when the grownups don’t give him what he wants.
RE: If he made one hed have to defend it. He knows any proposal hed like to defend cant get passed by Congress.
Obama DID propose a budget earlier this year. What do you know... when the time came for the Senate to vote, EVERYONE VOTED AGAINST IT !! 97-0 !! Even his own party did not deem his proposal worthy of passing.
He doesn’t want to go through another embarassment again.
