Washington – The U.S. targeted Al Qaeda-linked militants in Somalia in a drone attack last week, in what was believed to be the first such airstrike in the anarchic eastern African nation, The Washington Post reported Thursday.
The U.S. drone targeted two senior members of the al-Shabaab insurgent militia, amid growing fears in Washington that the Islamist group was seeking to expand its operations overseas.
The two militants, who had ties with Anwar al-Awlaki, a U.S.-born preacher believed to be hiding in Yemen, were wounded in the attack, the report quoted a military official as saying.

I knew I forgot one. I think in my mind I see Afghanistan and Pakistan as one conflict.
Don’t forget we have a diligent military with an Al Qaeda hunting license.
The location of this target probably came from the raid on Osama.
What is happening in Somalia is exactly what we should have done originally in Afghanistan. Nation building in Afghanistan was stupid and outright arrogant of Bush.
To deal effectively with pirates or stateless-terrorists, you punish whoever is shielding or protecting them. Providing safe harbor to terrorists or pirates should place any nation in our target sites.
Iraq is over. We should be out of there, pronto.
Libya - we shouldn’t be involved in a war for Europe’s oil supply. Let them fight this one!
Yemen ain’t our problem yet - unless they try to interfere with shipping through the Suez Canal. We won’t be alone in this fight, though, as a great many nations rely on ‘The Ditch’ for transportation of maritime goods.

To date, the Filipino Armed Forces have been quite successful at fighting Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiyah, the two primary terror organizations in the Philippines (both have strong connections to Al-Qaeda).

If we are killing Moslem extremists, and Obama says these are not wars, I’m all for it. Even if they were formal wars, I’m all for it.
I love drones - no not the Democrats in Congress - the mechanical ones that actually work.
The introduction if sudden “death from above” anywhere in the world is the best new weapon the U.S. has introduced into the wonderful world of warfare.
No privileged sanctuary, no cave too far, no house is safe.
The mental toll that this is taking on our enemies is not to be underestimated, as well as the fact that we not only kill their leaders and second lieutenants, but we also disrupt their lines of communication, supply points, “road trips”, bomb-planters, etc.
We should always take it to the enemy, no matter where they are, 24/7. A couple of well-placed missiles in South America would significantly change the paradigm (what a stupid word), there to the point that we might be able to save Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador from communists and mental midgets.
