Alleged airline stowaway denied bail after judge says he may be risk to flee

A federal magistrate judge Friday denied bail to a 24-year-old year man accused of being a stowaway after he slipped through multiple layers of airport security and hopped a flight from New York to Los Angeles.

Judge Michael Wilner said Olajide Oluwaseun Noibi appeared to be a flight risk after a prosecutor said he believed Noibi would return to Nigeria. The magistrate judge said he was also concerned about the defendant's identity and where he actually lived.

Noibi faces up to five years in prison if convicted of the offense. Authorities say Noibi used an expired boarding pass that did not belong to him -- and also provided only a University of Michigan identification card. Law enforcement sources told The Times they suspect Noibi has used old boarding passes to sneak onto previous flights.

...Noibi's next court date is scheduled for July 18.

Where could he go? It’s not as if the TSA would allow him on a plane without proper ID. /s

Why not LET him flee? Surely his permanent return to hellhole Nigeria (I have been there) would be more punishment for him and a substantial savings for us. Win , Win!

Aw come on! How could he afford a plane ticket? How would he even get through security while he's on bail? Oh, wait....

The person who proofed his ID to his boarding pass (with a different name) needs to be grilled by the FBI.

OK ... he's illegal and will be deported, right?

Let HIM pay for it by fleeing.

Tape an adult diaper on him and TSA will be on him like a democrat on a union donation.

Anyone know how this works?

On all the flights I've taken in some years now, they bar-code scan the boarding passes. I thought that was to verify the boarding pass was for the current flight and to match passengers and checked baggage. Who knew it was just beeping when it recognized a bar code and not processing the code further!

Or did he just slip past the gate agent? That would work some of the time, I imagine.

And what happens in either case when somebody turns up with a genuine pass for the same seat?

Here ya go:

Noibi has dual citizenship in the U.S. and Nigeria. In court, Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward Alon said Noibi had lived much of his life in Nigeria.

Article link here chock-full of info:Man in airport security breach ordered held in LA

Investigators were looking into whether he had any terrorist links in that country.

...[Magistrate] Wilner also cited court documents that Noibi didn't appear to have a permanent residence and had no money on him when he arrived in Los Angeles,

If you read the article linked in post #13, it led me to surmise that Noibi created so much confusion during his security screening and boarding that some essentials were forgotten by employees. I think that may be part of his con, to present such a complex, chaotic situation that he slips through. No wonder he is grinning in the photo.

If he is not a terrorist, he’s a classic con.

The defendant said he stood to inherit $10 million if only the judge would give him $8,000 today.

OMG, was Wimpy a Nigerian scammer prophet?

Big Sis Napolitano won’t allow poor, innocent, misunderstood souls like him to be deported. I’m flummoxed that this judge actually had the stones to put him in the slammer and deny him bail!
