My first take was greedy Sudan an settling old score. When i read it again in your post, it can be taken as Sudan coming to Libya’s aid by cutting off a large section of the country from the rebels.
Perhaps there is a (secret) treaty obligating Sudan to come to the aid of Libya in a war. Sudan has magnified the Libyan army by taking and holding the section they occupy.

Actually, it isn’t the same ground that Rommel and the British generals fought over. That conflict was limited to a relatively narrow band from the coast to perhaps a hundred or so miles inland. Nothing much was going on militarily, then, where these current events are taking place.

As par ususal the job to intervene in Libya was half-a**ed as always under Obama. But of course this is not war...it's something else. It's not an invasion and too will be called something else.
And no one mentions that Gaddafi was the one and only leader to voluntarily disarm from WMD. Would the US and NATO have gone into Libya if he had not? Just look at Iran and Pakistan for your answer.
Lesson the Muslim world and rogue regimes (Iran) the world over take from this is never give up your WMD.
