Man-Made Climate Change Evidence 'Hidden' By Sulphur Emissions [Coal pollution slows global warming]

Cutting down on pollution from Chinese coal plants could actually make the earth become warmer, according to a new study.

Exponents of global warming have struggled to explain why temperatures have declined in recent years instead of rising in line with the significant increase in greenhouse gas emissions.

Researchers now claim that sulphur emissions from power plants in China are blocking sunlight and having a cooling effect on the atmosphere, cancelling out the effect of global warming.

The impact of the sulphur emissions has combined with a cooler stage of the sun's cycle and a change from the El Nino to the La Nina weather system in the South Atlantic has kept temperatures artificially low, the experts argued.

If true, this could mean a change in the Sun's 11-year cycle along with measures to refine Chinese coal boilers will cause temperatures to rise significantly.

But sceptics of man-made climate change said the researchers "tweak an out-of-date climate computer model and cherry-pick the outcome to get their desired result".

So American pollution is bad, and Asian pollution is good. Or is it pollution by Free people is bad, and pollution by dictatorships is good.

“Albedo Enhancement by Stratospheric Sulfur Injections” [2006]

The first idea is due to Paul J. Crutzen, the Nobel prize winning specialist in atmospheric chemistry. His 2006 essay, Albedo Enhancement by Stratospheric Sulfur Injections, proposes adding sulphur to the stratosphere (so, to an altitude of at least ≈10km). There the sulphur would become sulphate, which would increase the earth’s albedo. Reflecting a little sunlight would compensate for the heat retained by greenhouse gases. Crutzen proposes “continuous deployment of about 1–2 Tg S per year”.

Worldwide recovered sulfur output is expected to increase significantly. For the next 1 or 2 years, sulfur supply was expected to nearly equal demand. Severe sulfur surpluses, however, were expected beginning in 2010, accelerating thereafter as a result of increased production, especially from oil sands in Canada, natural gas in the Middle East, expanded oil and gas operations in Kazakhstan, and Venezuela’s heavy-oil processors. Additional production increases were expected to come from Russia’s growth in sulfur recovery from natural gas and Asia’s improved sulfur recovery at oil refineries. … An in-depth analysis conducted by Black & Veatch … predicted that sulfur recovery from global petroleum refineries could reach 50 Mt in 2025.

Currently sulphur costs from as much as ≈$40 per ton down to nothing ....

So the people who are never wrong are wrong?

And does this mean we should be burning more coal?

And how stupid do you have to be to still believe these people?

...a change from the El Nino to the La Nina weather system in the South Atlantic...

I thought that the el Nino/la Nina was a Pacific Ocean currents thing? Or I guess that they are talking about the resulting weather systems spawned by the la nina ocean temps? They just seem to throw this stuff out there and figure by shear volume to silence descent...

Not to mention when we are digging up our own coal (I mean for personal use) to heat our homes.

I am no joking when I state that we’re looking at folks who are too unschooled to even have a liberal arts degree - let alone the knowledge of mathematics and physics required to even approach the complexity of trying to model the earth’s climate.
Indeed, if these people had any sense for mathematics or numerical models, they would know how ridiculously futile the whole endeavor of modeling the climate for long-term predictions is.

I.e. their "models" are so simplistic and lame that they don't incorporate these phenomena.

Does anyone believe any of these “scientists” know what the hell they are talking about?

In a word, NO.

When they stopped being scientists and leaped into activism and groundless opinion. East Anglia, anyone?

The "skeptics," on the other hand, base their opposition to reality : what has happened; fact. Not on opinion, computer generated scare scenarios and projections, far into the future where they can never be proven. Unfact.

Religion is based on faith and, as we can see, subject to abuse and horrible acts. Few Americans are ready for another neurotic religion.

All these rules will disappear when our dollar collapses and we have to sell our resources to pay our debt.

I love it!
Since "cartels" have been legitimized worldwide, the USA can form at least two Cartels good into the indefinite future:

OCEC, Organization of Coal Exporting Countries

and...

OFEC, Organization of Food Exporting Countries.

How sweet it is...
