Will Minnesota Meet de Tocqueville?

According to some observers, a terrible catastrophe has just struck the state of Minnesota. Due to an impasse on fiscal and taxation questions, the government of that state has been "shut down." On one side of the divide, you have Governor Mark Dayton, a tranquil (and some would say tranquilized) leftist who has been pushing for higher taxes as a way of solving Minnesota's budgetary deficit. On the other side, there is the Republican-controlled legislature that, to its credit, have taken the rare step of actually displaying a backbone by pushing for spending reductions instead and by standing up to Dayton's efforts to further destroy Minnesota's economy. As of this weekend, the government of Minnesota "officially" is no longer open for business.

Much to the relief of the hard-working, productive taxpayers of the state, I'm sure...

...the ‘tax the rich’ crowd who were temporarily laid off are now going to be getting paid time off to write letters to the editor the Star Tribune and Pioneer Press will dutifully publish.

So the rest of the "tax the rich" crowd can read their letters.

After all, who else wastes time reading the Star & Sickle? ; )

Today, day 5 of the shut down. I noticed the results of the shut down.

I flew through downtown Saint Paul at posted speed limits!

Downtown saint paul is the rats nest of government workers.

Aside from that, haven’t noticed a thing.

Minnesota’s problem - voters who think like this:

I had planned to read this article, as well as the book linked to early in the post. I started to read the on line book first, but stopped after the first paragraphs. Because...

As such, its motive is not emotional. It is not about painting all Muslims as evil or violent or dangerous, as some recent works have tried to do. It is the system of Islam itself, not individual Muslims, that comes under critique in this work.This textbook is an example of sophistry, well intentioned, but poisoned by Political Correctness :

That caused me to not waste my time, with either the book or this entire post. A good intentioned attempt, poisoned by the mantle of political correctness. Gang bangers are not dangerous; it is the individual bullets used in the guns.

For it is not a "book" that has murdered hundreds of thousands in the last few hundred years, but the very individual muslims toward whom he hopes to spare fault.. the very instruments of wholesale murder, individually and collectively.

FAIL!
