In his numerous fund-raising and policy speeches around the country these days, President Obama often bemoans the difficult economic times and uncertainties afflicting millions of Americans, including the nearly 14 million still seeking work unsuccessfully.

I read somewhere that when FDR was president, that the White House staff consisted of about 50 people.

Granted times have changed, but has the presidency and its functions changed so much, that a president needs so many hangers-on???? How much of what they do is productive??? How much of what they do is simply compiling reports for multiple layers of bureaucracy within the White House? Reports which the president will never see?

“Amerika’s nomenklatura”

http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article.aspx?id=528809

For those who remember the old Soviet Union, it was a grim place — at least for average citizens. But not so for those in government. Contrary to the official ideals of equality and a classless society that the ruling communist regime espoused, the USSR created a privileged class of party members inside government — the nomenklatura.

This semipermanent bureaucracy earned higher incomes, got better health care, ate better food and had greater job security than average Russians, the much-despised proletarians. Today, our bloated federal government seems, in significant ways, to be creating this same dynamic.

And he probably taunts Mooshy with “Honey, I got a bigger staff than even YOU do!”
Making her determined to find a way to add to her own.......
454 aides is just a par-for-the-course way to grow ‘government jobs’, starting at that hidden-within-the-White House level-—there has never been anything or anyone more offensively wasteful than this bunch, starting with the stinking fish from the head down, named Obama.
It boggles the mind he’s allowed to run this country.
He reminds me of one of those ten-year olds who we see in our local papers sitting in the Mayor’s office, allowed to be “Mayor for a Day”, except he’s President for 4 years, loose in the candy store of Big Utopian Ideas, on a buying spree with OUR MONEY. Time to take away his allowance, folks.

Uuuuhhh, so you don’t think removing the “Bush Tax Cut” would have an impact on someone making 81K/yr?

But, but the educated folks in the NEA just voted overwhelmingly to endorse Dear Leader for another term of pillage and distruction...unbelievable!

I noted this on a thread a couple of days ago about this same subject. There are now more White House aides than elected members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

This crowd is being paid a total of $37,121,463 this year. That's up seven staff members and nearly $4 million from 2008, the last year of George W. Bush's presidency.

Fully 141 Obama aides -- or nearly one-in-three -- earn more than $100,000 a year. That's also up from the 130 with that scale salary in Bush's last year.

Twenty-one Obama aides earn the top-dollar $172,200.

Don't for get to donate generously to the Obama reelection campaign all you liberal hacks, I'm sure he will need it...

I assume that’s just salary.

When it comes to government work, that is a drop in the bucket compared to the benefits received: Paid time off of all sorts, blue-ribbon health insurance and most of all, pensions.

Our kids and grandkids will be paying these talentless Commies long after the RaceMarxist has faded away in utter disgrace.

I’m not going to get all upset over those guys making, on average, $82K per year given the hours they work. They are easily putting in 100+ hours per week and working 7 days a week. I heard Rove speak about several senior Bush advisers that gave up 7 figure jobs to work for less than $200K.

Leave the seems out, it has been that way for a long time, the retirement benefits of these maggots is unbelievable. And the republican congress shortened the term they needed to work to retire. When they took over congress you had to work twelve years to retire. I think it is about 5 years now the whole thing is a crock.

“...Yep, Americans, you all really brought some “Hope & Change” ...”

The majority of those that voted for this commie piece of excrement had no clue who he is. They were duped and brought along for the ride by a complicit enemedia full of sycophantic mediots.

And the hardcore element that DID know do not deserve the appellation “American”; they are NOT our countrymen.

But we ain’t over yet, good brother. Keep the faith.

Maybe if they worked a little less, things wouldn't be as screwed up as they are.

Perhaps but this has been the case for a long time not just under Obamarx. Those are big time positions with brutal hours and responsibilities and not a whole lot of money (I’ve known a couple that worked in the White House - 1 under Reagan and one under W). Now after they leave is a different story...
