CBS News has learned that a U.S. drone strike in Pakistan in June killed senior al Qaeda commander Ilyas Kashmiri. Kashmiri was believed to be a key planner of the Mumbai Terror attacks in 2008 and, according to sources, was involved in planning terror strikes in Europe last fall, which led to alerts across the continent. Most recently, Kashmiri was al Qaeda's military operations chief in Pakistan, and was suspected of plotting attacks against U.S. troops in Afghanistan. The U.S. had offered a $5 million reward for information leading to Kashmiri.

Leading to what, his death or his capture? Dead men tell no tales, (un)fortunately. Avoids all that messy incarceration and ‘rights’ garbage.

Pakistani opposition parties have joined in demands that the government take a strong stand against U.S. violation of Pakistani territory.

Too bad for you the wrong party is in office. Otherwise, some "moral, principled people" might care.

CBS is reporting this now? Everyone else was reporting it back in June when it happened.

I guess those online JournoList e-mail exchanges just eat up the workday.

Well, he was good dead once...he’s even better the second time.

Seriously, one has to wonder if the timing and frequency of these low-cost victories have some sort of political angle.

I wonder if the drones will really start swarming in mid-2012...

Kashmiri’s death was also confirmed by an e-mail from Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami and by an anonymous Pakistani security official.[35] The U.S. defence department has so far declined to confirm Kashmiri’s death.[36] However, a U.S. official said that it was more likely than not that Kashmiri is still alive, in spite of Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s assertion that he could ‘confirm 100 percent that he is dead’.

Drone death is a better source of Intel than water boarding.

“Leading to what, his death or his capture? Dead men tell no tales, (un)fortunately. Avoids all that messy incarceration and ‘rights’ garbage.”

You’ve got that right. BHO, Holder et al want no part of capturing and interrogating to get valuable intel that would help our country’s safety. No, too distasteful and would force them to admit the last administration was right.

So BHO takes the easy, cowardly, irresponsible way out by ONLY ordering kills, never capture/interrogation then trial - the most infamous example being Osama bin Laden.

That one stank on ice and I pray that someday history will reveal the truth.

It would appear that anyone involved in Al Qaeda is a commander of some type. I often wonder if they have any other folks in their ranks.

Yeah, the others in their ranks are the ones that strap the bombs to themselves.

Instead of information leading to Kashmiri, turned out to be a smart bomb leading to Kashmiri. "We need to be more effective in our holy war against the infidel, and- where'd everybody go? What's that buzzing sound?" [boooooom!]
